    truth about zx2 shocks

You know, I keep hearing people say that the zx2 shocks are to soft and so forth. I want to know what those owners of these shocks think of them. I drove Pat(ne3ek's) turbo escort and I thought they were pretty good, but allowed more dip than the mazdaspeeds allow. However they felt pretty damn good.
So those who own these shocks post YOUR opinions of WHAT YOU (THE OWNER OF THESE SHOCKS) think of them.

    Thanks
    Bruce

    S T R U T S!!

i really liked them, a good street/wkend racing strut. I found them better than the HP Blues for my purposes, and i don't have to say that price plays a big part. The ZX2 struts are worth every penny.

I love the ZX2's! It's hard to believe that my Protege rides as nice as it does with these struts, but let's not forget the Eibach springs. These two items together work well for nice flat cornering and good dampening.

I have the ZX2 struts and Eibach springs combo as well and am really happy with it. I felt a big suspension improvement once I installed the ZX2's. Definately recommended, especially with their price.

Sprint springs 2" drop with the ZX2 struts......
I like them alot. they are a little bouncy now and then but they work really well.
I have no experience with the other struts that are offered out there, but I have a feeling that these would be about the same if not better.

o and the price break doesnt hurt either.

they are worth the money but if your into more aggressive cornering and or autox you might want to think about a stiffer strut /spring combo.

personally they are to soft for my needs... in time and with money upgrades will come

would the Tokicos work better/ stop the bottoming out?

The ZX2 struts are made by Tokico.

sell them and get the ZX2 struts. The KYBs are a glorified OEM replacement and will die just as fast as the stock OEM strut would. They are maybe only 5-8% stiffer than stock...if that.

by Tokicos, do you mean the HP Blues? If so, then no. The ZX2 struts are stiffer, but they don't feel like it. The HPs "feel" stiffer, but the actual valving is stiffer on the ZX2s. It's a different valving that makes the HPs feel stiffer, but infact are not.

Also, keep in mind the ZX2 struts are designed with an Eibach 1" drop in mind and valved accordingly....the HP Blues are designed with the OEM spring in mind and thus, valved accordingly....the HP Blues are only 10-12% stiffer over stock. I don't know the numbers for the ZX2s. Plus the ZX2 struts (either just front or both front and rear, i don't remember) have a 1" shorter stroke to be used with a 1" drop spring (i.e. Eibachs) This is why they bottom out with too much of a drop and stock ones bottom out cause they aren't valved stiff enough to handle a stiffer lowering spring.

another fix is to go with a 1.5" drop max.

BTW, how do you have 4.5" of clearance?......i only have 2.5-3" and thats with a ~1" drop, if that. (top of fender is at like 23.5")

spring rate controls that.... not the struts.

heh, I have like 2.5" of clearance with the sprint springs and 205/45/16 tires -- when I had the 40 series tires on I only had 2" of clearance and scraped ALL the time.

I really need to get my thrust bearinings and some new strut mounts so I can install my ZX2's and Ground Control's.
