Full sweep VS mechanical VS electronic gauges

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some autometer Lunar series gauges but i can't find info on their website as to the differences in mechanical, electronic, or full sweep gauges.

    info pls??? I need . . .

    1) oil pressure
    2) fuel pressure
    3) boost/vac
    4) egt
    5) water temp
    6) volt

    thx for help!!

Also, anyone have any experience with some of the electronic boost controllers out there? I'd like some opinions about some.

Well oil pressure, fuel pressure, EGT, and water temp I believe should all be electrical gauges. I noticed you are not including an air/fuel gauge, perhaps you should use air/fuel instead of volt? Oil pressure is only offered in fuel sweep with the mechanical gauges. I believe the same applies for fuel pressure as well.

Here is my thoughts on EBC. I think it is an easy way to let your boost get out of hand. It all really depends in IMO on your level of self-control. I have talked to a few people who find themselves turning up the boost when they are losing and ultimately resulting in a blown motor. With a MBC it is a bit of a pain to go adjust the boost so you are less likely to keep changing it. If I had the cash I would go with the dual stage MBC, that way you can have your daily psi and if things get serious flip the switch and up your boost to a preset level.

Full sweep just means the gauge's needle will move around in almost a full circle giving you a more acurate reading/wider range of points to look at. say you have an oil presure gauge going from 0 to 80, short sweep will go from 0-80 in 4 increments, full will go 0-80 in 10 or more...giving you a 230 or so degree reading instead of 90.

Mechanical gauges will have all of the imputs on the back of the gauges, electronic will normally have sensors that live in the engine bay with only wiring running up to the gauges and are the way to go, but they cost more...

Mechnical runs oil, fuel, vac/boost all the way up to the gauge, thus meaning plactic, steal or rubber lines running thru your firewall to your pilar or dash...not so much fun when leaks arise.

I run Greddy and am loving the full sweep and all electronic.

I would never feel safe with mechanical gauges for oil or fuel. I think you are just asking for trouble with those.

cool thx for the info guys! yea i did plan on having an a/f gauge too.

ok then i'll be sticking with electronic gauges then. Do any of the gauges HAVE to be mechanical . . . as in, they only come that way?

As far as EBC goes, i'll be getting the Greddy Profec Type B II

Nope, none of them have to be mechanical in your list of what you want...

cool, cause i'd feel better having it do its job under the hood instead of next to my head!

EDIT : i just got off of autometers website and it looks like they only offer a mechanical boost/vac gauge so i'll have all electric and 1 mechanical.

              Updated gauge list:

              1) Boost/Vac
              2) A/F
              3) Fuel Pressure
              4) Oil Pressure
              5) EGT

I don't really need any of the others do i??

Instead of oil pressure I think oil temp is more important. And yeah I forgot to mention the boost is mechanical. You just have a vacuum line running from the back of the gauge, nothing major. You seem to have a good plan on gauges, those 5 seem like your best bet.

Ya, forgot Autometer doesnt have a electric boost gauge...which is no big deal really, just a longer vacume line.

I would say oil presure is a good thing, because low oil presure is a bad thing, and if it gets to low then booom, but then again, high temps are bad to...lol

hmm i forgot about oil temp . . . autometer doesnt make oil temp for lunar series :-/ I guess i'll just have to get 1 that doesnt quite match the rest of the gauges. Looks like number of gauges goes back up to 6

why do you need oil pressure? if your low on oil then the oil light in the cluster comes on unless your sensor is broken.....and water temp...you ahve a temp gauge in the cluster.... i might have a bunch of gauges but if i do then only boost, a/f, and egt will be visible the rest would be hidden like in the glove box or something and prolly only used for mantinence.... IMO YOU need to drop your car b4 you go boosted....it looks like your on stilts man....
