    installing ground controls this weekend

Ok this weekend I am going to put my groundcontrols on my 323. they have been sitting in my trunk for like a month now and I figured it’s about time I got my ass in gear and did it. I was just wondering if anyone had any tip, hints, or tricks that would help my out during the install. Or if there are any comments those would be appreciated too. btw I got these GC’s off ebay and they were for a civic so I got em for like 130 bucks. I will take lots of pics and post them up here while I am doing the install. Thanks. Oh and these didn’t come with the wrench to adjust them with, so I am curious to know what I can use to adjust them to the height that I want.

Read the haynes manual! Also you can use MazdaRacer's site as a guide.

With the rears you will have to remove all the plastic panels in the trunk and then you can get to the 2 upper strut bolts.

With the fronts on those GC's your may have issues. You will need the upper cap/pearch for the protege/323. See the front upper mount is like an inverted cereal bowl and the pearch has a lump that fits right in and that way you can turn with no problems.

Also make sure you jack up both sides of the car, so you don't end up fighting the sway bar to get the shock back in.. And be prepared to replace your shocks soon.

so do you think if i use the perches that are on the back ones in the picture, and put them on the front, it will work better? otherwise is there anyway i can just get the front perches from groundcontrol without having to buy a whole set? thanks.

what kind of turn problems could those upper mounts create?

Well what you will do is this.

In the front of the strut/spring set up. You have the strut, spring, upper spring pearch and then the upper strut mount. In that order.
You will want to use the upper spring pearch temporarily so that you won't have the annoying clunking sound when turning.

Then you can order the upper mount from Ground Control. (I would do that)

The rears you can just install right off the back.

Your stock shocks will go down the drain quickly, but that is ok. Just replace them with something else ... I have protege/escort shocks on the rear of the 323 . But the front is in desperate need of some new shocks.

Anymore Q's just give me a shout. I can swing you my phone number if you have any problems ...

ok sounds good, so just use the ones it came with temporarily. so if i call groundcontrol and tell them i want the perches, they will sell them to me separetly. thanks bruce you have been a big help so far.

Well strike one for the coilover project. I didn’t get it done this weekend cause of a few different things. 1 is I didn’t have enough time because I had a lot of other stuff to do. So when I actually started on them I was kinda rushed. 2 is that I couldn’t break the lower bolts holding the struts to the wheels loose. I tried and tried and tried, but stopped after I bashed all of my knuckles up. I soaked those bitches in WD-40 but that didn’t help at all, so this week I am going to get some impact wrenches somewhere and give it a second try this weekend. And I am also keeping my weekend free of plans so that I don’t have to rush this project at all. Hopefully I can get it to work this time and have my coilovers on, because I am dying to have them on my car. Wish me luck.

You see that long breaker bar there in the bottom corner of the photo.

Get one of those and then put a pipe on it if you feel the need.
Also make sure you have a sledge to .. You will need it to bang out the bolt.
