    Club Protege Appreciation Thread

Today after going to a Pull it yourself junkyard I realized that I'm a mazda protege addict. After reading many posts that several people make to this site about various topics I knew exactly where to go in the car to get what I wanted.

    Here's one example:
I approach a 2nd gen pro in search of parts but I'm curious to know the model. The light bulb pops up in my head remembering that I read a topic about how to know if the car is an ES. Checked to see if it had rear disc brakes instead of drums and checked to see if it had a precat (es doesn't come w/ pre-cat). I think I could have also just check the inside of the driver side door, but this was a lot more satisfiing.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the people on this board. Yeah even the ones that just flame the newbies. Most of you guys are really helpful.

I'm going to start gathering parts to attempt a 2nd gen (US) 1.5L - 2nd gen (US) 1.8L swap.

I'll use the manual G25M-R tranny. The one that might have come with some 95 Pros.

Basically using everyting theMan listed in his FAQ. For me that's safer than trying to put the GTR/GTX turbo or other car engines into my car.

Other than money-wise I'd like to make this as hassle-free if I can.

the G's came only in ES's (BP), at least in 1995. That's what I have (not swapped though). From what I understand, they're a bit difficult to find, as the ES trim level was less common.

So what you're saying is that you have a 95 ES pro (orginally stock BP) and it didn't come with a G tranny.

Was mazda silly enough to switch tranny's for a same year car? This seems kinda weird to me

            only 1995 protege es' came w/ g series, tranny. 96-98 pro's came w/ the f series tranny.

            95-98 1.5l pro tranny = 96-98 1.8l pro tranny = f series tranny

            95 1.8l pro tranny = g series tranny

Sorry bout the confusion. I think I just misinterpreted your post from before. I thought you were saying your 95 ES didn't come w/ the G tranny. Thanx for clarifing.

Maybe early 2006 if I'm lucky. I'm just starting to collect parts.

I'm also still in college. One more semester.

Well good luck with that. Hopefully you'll be able to still work on your car while in college. I didn't have as much time to play around with mine cause of class work
