BP powered sephia vs 02-03 Celica GT(S/R)

I can't remember if it said GTS or GTR but it was red and looked very nice. Looked like the guy had an exhaust and it sounded like he had an intake. I was coming home from school taking the longer route just so I can scream through the flyover (it calls for 40mph and I gave up after 85 since I felt the car slightly lifting in the rear) connecting I45 to the toll road. Just after I took the exit, i saw this celica and figured I should see how badly he will beat me.

So I line up with him doing about 45 and play tag for a couple secs so the driver would understand my intentions. The guy looks over at me and then the car and then nods. I nod back and we both overtake the rav4 in front of us so we can take off at the same time without any obstacles. He hits the brakes lightly .... i guess to hang back a second and figure out WTF i'm driving.

After a moment, he lines up again and nodded to signal the start. Off we go.... I'm in 3rd@4000rpm and saw him slightly gaining on me.... so i shifted down into 2nd and stepped on it. Now his front bumper is lined up with the back of my front door and we are both hanging tight. Now that was completely unexpected.... he didn't put me to shame.. yay! lol.

I look over at the tach and i'm closing in on 7500... so i shifted to 3rd. We are still going at it and i noticed i'm starting to gain on him.. although very slowly. Shifted at redline to 4th (this is when we passed the behemoth on the left lane) and I noticed that I had stopped againign on him and we are hanging equally again. I saw the signal upahead and the speedo reading 105mph. So I figured it was good enough and hit the brakes. he flew past me aand in the next second or so, he also hit the brakes. I changed to the right lane (behind him) since I had to take a right there. Because of that I didn't get to talk to him or see his expression (although i did catch an annoyed look on his face when I put him behind my front door earlier :D). When the light turned green, i honked, gave a thumbs up and we both went our ways.

The car is BP powered with G series trans and some engine mods (check out my site ).

Disclaimer: I know a lot of people don't like street racing and I certainly don't recommend anybody else doing it (yeh like that will make a diff hehe). The feeder was practically empty except for the one ford excursion in the leftmost lane (it's a 3 lane feeder) that we passed while going at it. The ford excursion is more of a risk to life than either of the two compact cars involved in this anyway heh. Let the flames begin ....

I like your Sephia... I think 160hp is a very optimistic estimate

What year Sephia's had that header?

Thanks. The header is standard on all 1.8L BP powered Sephias (95-97) just like it is for the BP Protege ES and the Escort GT.

Is there a big difference between the Sephia header and mine? (i.e. is it worth the $50 that the junkyard wants for one)

If you have the usual cast iron manifold (the one that looks an ugly blob of iron) and not a header, then it will definitely be good for a couple HP and some low end torque.

IMo, 50 a is a bit too much. Shop around and you should be able to get one for 10-20 bux.
