    vj-23 specs?/other turbos same size?

what are the specs on the vj-23, also what are some other turbos around the same size as the vj-23 ?!?

i have a gtx in my escort with the stock vj-20 and it holds 10 to 12 psi with 2 1/4 IC piping with a thunderbird supercoupe (not turbo coupe) IC mounted in front with 2 1/4 exhust . the car has good power but i want more and the vj-23 looks like a good sized turbo to go with not to big but big enough plus i can kinda tune that size of a turbo for my car by check other peoples set-up'z(peolple in the u.k and the stock GTR info) and not having to go stand alone and to the dyno all the time.

    thanks ryan

Well the 323 GTR put out 210hp bone stock, while the 323 GTX put out 180hp bone stock. You do the math. (and I think those numbers are at 8 psi, the VJ-23 i hear is capable of 20psi)

the vj-23 is basically the same as a T3. it can hold up to 25psi before over spooling. also the vj-20 can spool to 15psi befoer hitting its spooling limitaions.

        There's a VJ30 too... not sure if it's a direct replacement for the VJ20/23

It came on the 80's 300ZX

The VJ23 flows more air than any T3 i've ever seen... Turbo's are sized based on flow vs pressure ratio, so statements like 'VJ23 can boost 20psi' are completely meaningless. A VJ23 could produce 50psi... into a pin hole

VJ23 flows enough air for around 350HP on pump fuel, maybe a touch more. I have seen a modified one on a rally car quoted at ~440HP on race fuel, but it went through turbo's pretty quick. By comparison, the VJ20 will realistically flow about 240HP on pump fuel.

Have you ever seen the throttle body on a CRX HF? It's about one inch in diameter, they crack me up

Damn, thats crazy. Now that you are talking about TB's, me and my buddy with a 95 b16 powered civic spent a week trying to get the JDM throttle body on there. It was bigger, but after about 300 bucks, the thing was trash, it would not idle right, and then when we put the old one back on, it smoked and would barely run. What crap that was.

The compressor wheel is 65mm, not sure of the trim or the AR ratio. Turbine side is 60mm with a P15 (small) housing. Physical size is similar to some of the smaller T04 turbos, but they're pretty old tech now, and generally not roller or ball bearing. You'd probably find something like a GT28RS is close to a VJ23 on performance, but with less lag, or maybe a GT2871 would be a better overall match.
