    Cleaning the Engine

    Hello,

My car's engine was never really cleaned (inside is fine, outside is icky)
how does one go along cleaning it? I'd like to get it pretty clean before winter, and finish it off next summer (as i'd like to get it in showcar condition)

    Thanks!!

You might also want to make sure that the cleaner you use does not eat paint -- try some on a rag on your engine bay, strut bar, and any pieces you may have spray painted. If you rub some cleaner on the painted parts and your rag comes away with color on it, then you will want to cover up your paint with plastic, too.

You should also cover up your master brake cylinder, too. While it should be sealed against water, brake fluid does absorb water and cause problems, so you don't want to be spraying water on it directly.

Fetivarules is pretty good at this. he uses his toothbrush or something like that. Just wait till he see's this post.

Me I tend to use a degreaser and scrub down the bay and then rinse it out with a hose. It works pretty well for what I need to get done.

Just becareful with that hose. You don't want to go crazy with it.

Use Autoglym Engine Cleaner, this is brilliant stuff spray it on all engine parts (not electrics obviously) then wash off after 10mins

              engine cleaning

I have been cleaning my engine for years with laundry soap. You got some powder laundry soap, tide, gain, whatever. Put some in a bowl and use just enough water to make it into a paste. Use a sponge or rag and just rub it on. Let it sit for 25 to 30 mins. Hoze off.

Might leave some suds in your driveway......
