    Cheap knock control for GTXers

well hear is what i did.
1st off i have a gtx motor in my 91 escort gt using a gtx wiring harness and gtx ecu.

I read on a nother board that if you don't have a knock control hooked up on a gtx it will make i run in a limp mode 20 HP less than it should be.

So I called Corksport and orderd a GTX knock sensor $70 or so for the knock sensor.

o.k. on my GTX motor the sensor for the knock control is on the back of the block buy the oil pressure sensor.

The wiring connector for the block knock sensor was cut so i only had a wire hanging down. The wire that your looking for is a wire with a red wire shield around it.

So i ran that wire to the knock control sensor that i got from Corksport .
the sheilded red wire to Yellow/Blue on the harness that you plug the knock sensor into on the gtx harness.

Now hears the cheap part, i got a 88 mazda mx-6 turbo for free and parted it out. At that time i was doing the knock sensor thing on my gtx and compared the knock sensors GTX vs. MX-6 TURBO and noticed that the part numbers were the same and had a mitsubishi logo on them.
to my knoledge the knock sensors are the same so i would say go to the junk yards and pull one for half the price or even charper. im not 100 % sure they are identacal but they did have the same part number if someone calls Corksport they can find out for sure.

Also when i did this i only ran my car after the gtx swap 1 to 3 times and they were sort trips down my street. then i saw the post of someone saying that without the knock sensor hooked up your running in a limp mode 20 HP less than normal. then i added the knock sensor and i couldn't compare with knock sensor vs. with out knock sensor. seeing i only ran it a few times and was still clearing some stuff up with my swap i couldn't really compare.

so if someone has a gtx without knock sensor hooked up and are going to do this could you tell me the results/ diffrences you fell in power.
Also i talked to Derrick at Corksport and he verified that the GTX will run in a limp mode without the knock sensor hooked up(20 HP loss).
    thanks ryan

hey i have the same problem, but iam not sure how to hook up the wire ? my connectors on the knock sensor were broken. i connected the red wire to the yellow and the black to yellow to the insulator. iam using the mazda mx-6 knock sensor. it has 4points down & 1on the top. car runs good.

Ill try to get some wiring diagrams for the mx6. I have the 626 knock controller and am going to install it as soon as I get my freakin ecu!!!
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!

Well I am betting you that Corksport just sold you a MX6 knock sensor controller. I had already posted about this in the SAFC II thread. That is how you get the knock sensor reading.

so is that the plug that comes straight from the sensor? or does the ensor plug into the harness then into the controller?

when i talked to darrick at corksport this is what he told me to do.

it was a 1/2 year ago so this is what i remember

the sensor mounted in the back of the block has, i think 2 wires running off it.
what you want to do is run the sheilded red wire (from the knock sensor mounted in the back of the block) to the knock harness yellow/blue wire that is shown in the pics above.

i have a gtx ecu and harness and i think it work.

not 100% sure about the below statemant / this is what iv read about adding a knock sensor to a n/a harness

if ran on a n/a harness you will have to splice all the wires off the knock sensor harness too , not sure were they go but i think it can be done.
                        thanks

and what about the unshielded wire that comes off the sensor?
