    Probe GT engine?

    I have heard of people putting Probe GT engines in their 1g Protege. Is this true? If so is this realistic or are there alot of modification that take place to get it in, like new tranny, engine mounts. And does anyone know about how much it would cost to put one in.

    Thanks for helping my stupidity :p
    Anyone who wants to throw a 1st gen Protege my way, is welcome.

    well i depends on which engine you are talking about:

    4cyl turbo:
    ahh the F2T, i tried to do this swap. pissed $900 in custom mounts and fabs. only to scrap the project. unless you want to shell $3K into a swap that wont yeild great results. STAY AWAY

    6cyl:
    The KL-(ME?), This swap is actually quite common, and is probably the swap you are talking about. if you want find a mx-6, that way you can have a mazda ECU, and Valve cover. For this you will need several parts from a V6 mx-3. PM, FESTIVAS RULE he did this swap into his MX-3, which is basically a protege, and will be more informed in this swap.
    When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

      Yea, it's a KL-03 or KL-DE I think. Either way, you're going to need the engine, tranny, wiring harness, ECU, axles, MX-3 crossmember (from the 1.8L V6 MX-3), and I've heard front brake assemblies. I'm sure there's about 50 other parts that I'm missing, too, but that's the jist of it.

      Take it to a-spec, it's a freaking steal to get it done there... C H E A P!

        KLDE is the Probe GT or MX-6 engine (165hp)
        KLZE is the JDM engine (200 hp)

          well i actually just finished doing this swap on my 1st gen, and i did it all by myself, as for parts, this is a list of parts i boguth and needed,

          mx6 engine wiring harness and ecu(you can also use an mx3)
          KF-ZE V6 engine
          probe GT tranny
          mx3 drive shafts
          mx3 engine fuse box (if you use the mx6 wiring harness then you need this)
          flywheel and clutch, and thats about it

          as for mounts and crossmember i used my old protege mounts just fitted them for the engine and tranny, and as for the front brake assembly that actually optional you don't have to get it, i didn't

            Wow! Congrats on the swap. You make it sound so damn easy.
            How long did the swap take?

            Got pics?

              well with my low $120 pay checks it took long then expected, but if you have the money and all the parts at once this is actually a 2-day swap, one day to rip everything out and another to put everything back in, and to tell you the truth this was my first swap and it actually was easy, just the wiring i hated but besides that it was easy, i don't have pics yet but will very soon

                  well lets see his how my prices went
                  J-Spec KF-ZE V6 engine-$450
                  tranny-$200
                  drive shafts-$80
                  wiring harness and ecu-$130
                  the rest of the prices where for other things such as oil belts spark plugs, so it actually came out to about $1500 or less
                  as for handling it handles nice, but the biggest difference is the power, i mean wow, with my engine power start and pulls you from 3500rpm to about 7500rpm which is the ecu fuel cut, which will soon be taken off as well as the rev limiter since i have a high reving engine from japan, as for the engine specs it goes as 170hp and 145-150 ft of torque, as my opinion of the swap, it was worth the time and effort i spent because this little thing is fast, i don't know what i run yet 1/4 mile but i know a guy who did a similar swap as me and had the same mods as me and he's runing 14.7 1/4 mile

                        What about swapping the 1.8 from the MX-3 into a Protege? Also, how similar (mounting) is the 1.8 to the KLZE?

                            um no how bout you guys do your info and know your **** before posting on what the kf-ze is, here the list so you know
                            kf-ze-2.0 v6(don't mix it with the mx3 engine)
                            k8-de- mx3 engine this is the 1.8 v6
                            kl-de-2.5v6 (found in the probe/mx6/millenia)
                            kl-ze-2.5v6 200hp j-spec engine
                            so don't talk about thing you don't know about because the kf-ze is not a 1.8 its 2.0

                              damn edwin, first you post misinformation about the MX3's having the SOHC in the 94 model year and now you are claiming the KF is a 1.8 HAHAHAH get you damn facts straight, moron. UrbanStylez is completely correct..

                              K8 = 1.8
                              KF = 2.0
                              KJ = 2.3
                              KL = 2.5

                              Protoss: I have a KLZE btw, not a KLDE.
