Autocross In Ft. Myers This Sunday! 10/5/03

If anyone is interested in coming to race or watch, please PM me as soon as possible. Please only PM if you are SURE you can go, and remember that you will need a Snell 95 or newer helmet.

    Post questions here though.

    Itinerary:
-Leaving Ft. Lauderdale (vicinity of sunrise and I-95) at 6am.
-Arriving Ft. Myers at about 8am to register, tech the car and participate.
-Coming back no later than 7pm or so.
-Taking gator alley and I-75 to and from Ft. Myers.
-I don't know exact directions to Buckingham airfield where the event takes place. I'm going with two other people who have been there before (Rene: Laser Blue MP3 and Joe: Laser Blue SVT Focus)

The next local autocross is in Hialeah, Miami on October 25th (saturday). Details will be posted. In the mean time feel free to check http://autox.carlc.com for the latest info and updates.

FWIW, I've run at GCAC for since I started. The course is LONG, and the viewing for a spectator is pretty boring really. You're not very close, and you cannot go for rides, as you can with most of the other clubs in Florida.

On the other hand, for a driver, it's probably the best club in florida to learn how to read again on, because of the track layout, which if you've never been there, I'll let you be surprised.

Also, first car out is usually ~10 am.

How far of a drive is it for you Jo? i'd like you to come but i'm not gonna twist your arm (maybe something else tho LOL)

If you have never been to an event to watch or to race (i'll lend u my helmet no problem) then don't be discouraged by JesseSays.... thats how i started off, by bein' a spectator for 3 or 4 events and only then i decided to try it. I have been loving autocross ever since, & i'm in my 3rd season/year now.....

Have you ever been to a GCAC event?

Comparitively, have you been to a CFR event?

GCAC doesn't allow passangers, has a crappy novice system, is horrible as far as viewing is concerned.

CFR allows passangers, has a lot of one on one novice instruction if you want, usually has much better spectator areas due to the courses we run, and is generally far far friendlier place.

And it's ~35-40 min drive for her.

Yes, I was talking to you.

Being that I've been to many many of both events, and have brought visitors to both, I think I've got a decent idea of what IS and is NOT a good idea. I'm not trying to make her not go, just that there might be better options as far as a good event to go spectate for.

                        Hey everyone.....

A few things came up (i'm annoyed but what to do) and neither I nor incidentally Rene will be able to make it to the event today. Sorry.
I am hoping to be able to make it to the next GCAC event however.
I will call you in the morning Jo, and hopefully catch you on time but when you see this, call me. I'll be up all morning and day dealing with what's come up.

In the mean time, on October 25th, there is an autocross closer to home (for us east-coasters). It's event #5 of the SFL-SCCA & Equipe Rapide hosted series. I'll start a new thread for info regarding this event. Jo, you may close this thread if you so desire.

                        Later,
