91 DX 5-speed vs. My 96 LX auto

My friend has had a 91' DX 5-speed sitting in his yard for quiete some time now
needing a timing belt. Well he just recently got time to put one on and was
saying that once he got it fixed that he was gonna smoke me.... i was like,
yeah probaly with my 1.5 p.o.s. Anyways so we took the race down the road from my house on a deserted road. I live out in the sticks... by the way..
We took off and he waxed my a**. I stayed a good 4 car lengths behind him
up until around 75 and thats when i started gaining. Well before I know it
we saw a car so we both slowed down. So we tried it again except this time
i got a 2 car head start. I stayed ahead a good 2 car lengths up until
90 and then he tried to pass me... we were side by side (lol) and i could
see him downshifting into 4th trying to pass me but he couldnt do it! there was no passing the almighty 1.5. lol. so he had to let off and i remained in front. end of story..

Why would he be downshifting well into a race? Was he racing in 5th gear all the while?

would have been funny to see a B8 vs the z5. Battle of the high 16 sec cars....
The T3 BP MX-3 conversion has begun, and is taking forever & will kill me.

im thinking driver error on the 1st gen DX. theres no other way that nasty little 1.5 would have won that race. the DX isnt as fast as LX, but it still smokes the Z5. i know my friend has the z5 and my bro had a '90dx. both 5-speed. they both didnt know what to do when i got my EGT!!!!!

There probably was driver error if the DX started the 'race' in 5th, then tried to downshift to 4th when the z5 was past him. lmao. Besides if someone pulls 4 car lengths on you to 70, you're not gonna make up the ground with a 1.5 automatic. I'm thinking ricer fly-by AT Protege's fall flat on their face in 3rd gear anyway. If the z5 had any hope of keeping up, it would have been off the line, not at the top end. Dang that's 4 lines wasted talking about a high 16 sec car vs a high 17 sec car. lol

You have to be a real bad driver to have an error in a 100hp car. You're a retard if you miss a shift. Take off in first, get ready, in 10 seconds you have to shift to second.

Pfft, ten seconds, it's more like eight seconds. Don't knock our cheap crappy engines!
