    Speedo cable disconnect

I just replaced my 1.8L SOHC engine with a 1.8L DOHC engine on my 323LX and disconnected the speedo cable from it's quick disconnect connection and now I can't put it back together.

It feels like something is seized.

    I need your help badly.

Congrats on your swap by the way.

I had similar problems with my speedo cable when I replaced the gauge cluster. What was happening is the cable on the inside of the cable (hehe), the small metal peice was pulled out too far on the gauge cluster side, and therefore wasn't in far enough on the tranny end so the cable couldn't turn.

First of all, make sure it didn't pull out of the tranny. Second, make sure the metal peice is spinning on the inside of the cable as you're driving (therefore it'll be able to turn the speedo), and once that works, connect it *carefully* to the cluster.

Hopefully you'll have more luck than I did. I ended up having to get a new cable (uppper and lower) from the dealer to make it work, I think I f'ed up my cable though as I was takign out the cluster. Live and learn i guess.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes

The car runs and it's quick after 3500rpms. I ported and polished the head, 3 angle valve job, shaved it 0.018" to increase to about 9.3:1- 9.4:1 compression, ported/polished and knife edged the intake manifold and I regrinded the cams to a more aggressive cam profile which still idles at 700rpms. The rest is stock, stock intake system, stock 323 exhaust, stock Escort GT exhaust manifold/flex pipe and the car still pulls hard. Wait until I upgrade to a 2"mandrel bent exhaust with a hi-flow cat and straight thru design muffler, genie headers and the RX-7 VAF this car will eat GSRs or even Type Rs for breakfast, I'm hoping to hit 14.7-14.8 at 98mph with street tires once I'm done. My goal is 140-150whp. I might start playing around with the ECU, I have someone that programs EPROMs.

If anyone is interested in cams or porting and polishing the head or intake manifold I can do all that. Cams start at $200US, head porting with 3 angle valve job , shaved to increase compression and new valve seals is about $500US and porting/polishing the intake manifold is about $125US. Shipping is not included in the prices. I have a spare set of cams and intake manifold for those that still want to drive their cars.

I disconnected it from the quick disconnect, the black connect seperates in two and now I can't put it back together. Is there some kind of trick for them to lock together?

Does the installation manual say how to install the speedo cable?

Can someone please check it out. It seems that the three ball bearings won't allow the other half of the speedo cable to enter and snap into place.
