I wonder if it is a matter of time before they come up with the Mazda Speed version of the Mazda3. So is although it is a replacement for a Protege, is that the end of the name Protege like Acura's Integra?

Yes, it's the end of the protege name.

I'd assume there is a MS version of the 3 in the works, they're probably at least planning it.

I'd expect to see the MS version of the 6 out first, though (which last rumor i heard was a turboed 4, which is the same engine as the 3s, so it could possibly be the same for the MS3?? Who knows).

The MS6 will be a V6 for North America, probably a hopped up version of the current 3.0L and maybe even the Duratec 35 by the end of '05. Mazda does have plans for the 2.3L turbo however, for the MPV in the JDM by summer of '05 and possibly in the 6. Currently the 6 is not offered with the 3.0L there. I have not heard anything yet about the 2.3L turbo being available in a MS3, but it makes sense.

          Thanks for the clarification

Turboing that 2.3l would be quite a mover!

The hatchback they can keep. The sedan, I really like. If I were to purchase one, I would want it in the sedan - the s-model... with the larger engine.

The interior also looks very bimmerish and the steering wheel looks very nice also....
Damn I have to say I really like it ..
