SR Motorsports Performance camshafts, fraud. READ!!!

If you are looking for performance camshafts please read this posting.

Once again, in the nice real world of performance parts there is the typical vendor who tries to sells an item with amazing results when in fact you are just replacing stock for stock.

www.shaneracing.com known SR Motorsports sell performance camshafts for the Mazda Miata 96-97 promising HP gains from this mod. I bought the "performnance cams" and the first thing I did was measured the lobe (lift and duration) vs. my spare Escort GT camshafts OEM.

[It happens to be long time ago I bought a cylinder head to practice porting and polishing and after that kept the camshafts.]

Shaneracing cams (allegedly Mazdaspeed) and GT, LX cams are THE SAME. I called the company asking them how much lift they are suppose to have and the company said the cams have 1/10,000 of an inch more lift. Are you[ kidding me? That’s less than one fifth of a millimeter. BS BS!!!!

    EXCUSE LIST:

I talked with Greg and Scott from SR Motorsports and asked for the specs sheet and came out with the excuse that the instructions are in Japanese and are thrown away cause nobody understands them.

I told them cams are suppose to have code numbers to distinguish them so nobody swaps them and have it as a trademark logo. Our cams don’t have anything cause the Japanese manufacturer is not the same as other companies. But check this out, the same spot where the GT, LX and Sephia cams have the engraving, the cams they sell are grinded off and mutilated at that same spot…mmhhh????

Hey, I went to Mazda and say they have never heard off Mazda Miata 1997 performance Mazdaspeed cams. AHHHhh, our cams are Jspec Mazdaspeed from a privileged distributor in Japan that Mazda USA does not know….mmmhHHH??!

So, be warned, the performance camshafts sold by SR Motorsports (website name is www.shaneracing.com) are just brand new stock cams!!!!!!!!!

He (Greg) gave me a full refund right away (less the shipping charges) within a week.

    :bsmeter:

*I have proof that what is said above is true. If you are looking for cams, try Bullfrog or Corksport. I would say Todaracing, but are way overpriced and need to swap from hydraulic to solid lifters. Good Luck

True that plays a very big part ini it. If a valve stays open longer, or opens faster makes a huge diff.
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!

I just wonder about the fact that the only grind marks on the cams, are suspiciously located wher distinguishing #'s would normally be found!

I just want some facts before we start yelling fraud.

I wouldn't want to run big lift cams with the stock HLAs and valve springs either...

              More info

I measured both cams, stock vs. the alleged performance once.

Both are identical, like I said I called several Mazda stores and none could not find any Mazdaspeed camshafts.

The company, SR Motorsports, charge to everybody according to there policies 25% restocking fee if I change my mind about the product.

He did not charge me anything, the guy was very nervous because is not like other people who do not want something cause for emissions or just dont have the money.

I am still waiting for that spec sheet he was going to send me... or the call from the Tech to tell me more about the cams. Once again, I measured both with a digital caliper. I even took it to a machine shop to be sure and he also said the same thing.

Anyway, be my guest and try em yourself. At least they gave me my money back, less ths hipping which is no big deal, only 16 dollars.

                        Moew proof...

I went to http://www.mazdamotorsports.com or hit the link Mazdaspeedmotorsports and I asked the following question...

                        {I have a 1996 Mazda Miata 1.8 DOHC.

                        Is there any performance camshafts from Mazdaspeed for my car?}

                        Answer from Mazdaspeed technical support
                        website

                        [Sorry, but there are not.

I called this company and they only sell performance racing parts only if are a member of any racing organization and if currently participate in 2005 events just to show you how serious they are about there commitment. In other words they are not out just to make money. Also, they do go by the book as they dont want anybody to be installing off-road parts to daily driven vehicles.

Thing is, did you ask them if there were any for the Miata? You'd have to swap the lifters, but they'd work. IMO regrind is the best option in our case, because that way you can get exactly what you want.

                            No need to swap lifters...

96-97 Miata cylinder heads have the same lifters as 90-94 LX, GT, NO NEED to swap for solid ones.

You must be confused with the 99+ Miata cylinder head, the lifters are solid.

The 90-97 cams aren't any different, the 99+ are the only ones you'll see gains with.
