    B16 integra

a friend of mine had a b16 from a... Civic SiR i think (b16-a.b.c, i dunno). we were headed to get some food, and ended up next to eachother. it wasnt a race. he lit it up and so did i... and just for that moment... he didnt pull. he stayed on my ass. but he didnt pull on me. im not sayin that i could have beat him, but this thread will be recieving an update, possibly a video, of the race.

what kind of power can i expect from him?

the b16's are quick in crx's because they are light. A b16 stock puts down arounf 170hp at the crank, but in a crx that means a quarter mile in the 14s. The integra is much heavier stock.

If you are running a stock LX, the integra will take you - but if you're running a turbo you have a pretty good chance. Remember that those b16s are rev happy and pull hard through 2nd and 3rd.

But modified, the b16s can put down some serious power as well.

A B16 swap into a 'teg? WTF? Even the base model's from '90 up had the B18 stock, if you swap the B16 head onto that block you get the infamous "LS/VTEC" combo that Honda-heads drool over. If it's a '90 or newer 'teg and he ditched his B18 for a B16 without keeping his block he's retarded, and just lost the chance for an easy 200hp all-motor job that would have cost less than the B16 swap.

On topic: one of my old coworkers had a '99 Civic SI with the B16 (stock) and with I/E he couldn't break into the 15's I'm reasonably sure this was driver error because with I/E I was running low 15's on my D16 powered CRX. One of my other coworkers had an '02 RSX typeS and ran a best of only 16.2 stock... which is really slow for that car so i'm assuming that he couldn't drive worth **** (the 16.2 was his best time ever).

My buddy has a b16 powered DA integra, he didnt do LS/VTEC because it costs assloads more than just slapping the B16 in. You can't rev an LS bottom end out to 9krpm like you can a b16 with out building it. So why have a vtec car that you have to shift @7k? + you still have to get the oil lines, tap the head, new head gasket, new timing belt, new head bolts. ect ect. This kids integra pulls hard and it will eat my car on the highway. (ls crx)

Now, no USDM b16 put 170 to crank. The b18c1(gsr) did. The early obd0 b16s put 150 crank and the obd1-obd2 were 160 crank. The JDM b16s did 170.

So if he has an obd1 b16 im sure he can take you with good skill.

When I said 170 crank hp, I was thinking of the JDM motor ... my mistake ... I have a buddy who did that swap into his completely stock looking CRX (13 inch wheels, rust on the fenders and all) it would surprise people when he beat mustang GTs

ne3ek, your car put quite a bit down to the wheels - I'm surprised a b16 integra can take you on the highway

I seriously doubt that if you did the work yourself a full B16 swap would cost much more than an LS/VTEC. Swapping a head is way less labor than swapping a motor and they sell kits to run the oil lines for the VTEC. A LS/VTEC may not rev as high as a B16 but they can make a lot more peak power with a way flatter powerband then the B16.

I have a JDM B16A in my Civic......not a tremendous amount of torque, but once the VTEC hits, it pulls really hard. If you race him from a stop, you will definately start out in front because of the "torqueless wonder" known as a B16...race him from a roll and I'm pretty sure he will pull hard on you.

I love my Honda though......I know how much power a Mazda has. Elscotto80 on here (boosted Escort) is my buddy, so I know the joys of a Mazda.
