    Recommend some speakers, subs?

I'm looking for some relatively cheap 5 1/4" and 61/2" speakers to put in the pro..

Right now I don't have anything in mind for either.. I'll be running the rear speakers off of a 180watt jensen HU.

As far as budget, for the speaker sets, I would like to stay below 100 dollars for each pair.

For the subs, I'm not sure of a price range as I've never purchased them before.. I've only got one set of preamp output on my head unit, but I might try to get a multichannel amp.. I'm looking for a modest price for a decent quality on all of this.

Anyone have anything they would recommend?

The protege has 6.5"s in the front and the back... You should be able to get some pretty decent ones for 100 per pair. I have my suggestions, but I'm sure there are plenty more educated and more informed people on this forum than myself.

::blinks:: This is news to me. I installed 6.5" in the front and rear... 93' Pro DX. nothin special. It was a long ass time ago though, maybe I did some special fitting. Not to my recollection though.

yeah, its 5.25 all around... but there arent too many nice sounding 5.25's as far as i know... so its better to put 6.5's in.. the only problem with that, is your window might not roll down fully coz of the speaker mounting depth...thats all!!!

Damn... that's a pretty deep 6.5" if ur window won't roll down because of it... I dont' know, I never had a problem. I guess that could be a problem if they were really deep, but... meh... lol, i'm useless.

there is no varying amount of opinion you guys.. 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 inch speakers WILL fit into the front doors in a first gen protege.. however, it's the mounting depth that will **** you up and prevent your front windows from going down all the way. with a mounting depth over 1 7/8ths of an inch, you will NEED to custom mount your speakers either to the door panel or use a custom mounting ring. end of discussion
