    10 or 12?

I have around $80 to spend on a sub. I have an amp and a sealed box for a 10 ... should I go for a 10 (I have an Escort GT so its small inside) or a 12 .... and a box.

If so, what is a good "thumping" sub for a sealed box for around $80 ?

I listen to a lot of hip hop and I like the hard hitting bass ... will a 10 be good enough?

Just asking for a general opinion

A good box could easily cost you $80, with no sub. Don't expect to get a good 12 AND a good box for that much.

you should have got in on the RE group buy i posed a few weeks ago.

what amp do you have? i've got an OBCON 10" sub that's been laying around in it's box for a while. i bought it for testing purposes, but have only used it for maybe 3-4 months. it's the OB-104:

you're not going to get hard hitting bass for $80. there's no way around that.

Here's what I did with a similar budget.

Of course you'll most likely receive what you pay for. I just want some bump in the trunk

I'm saving the rest of the money I have for these infinity subs in a nice ported enclosure up at the pawn shop here.

The amp is an Alpine 3548 ... I got it used and I can't find much online about it .. what do you think blue LEDz, is it even worth using that amp or is it too small?

If I were to stick with the 10 box and sub ... how does the obcon perform? - sorry I am not up to date in car audio

Also, my head unit is an Alpine MP3 unit, I have some bright clarions up front and alpine s-types in the back

120W should be fine just to add some low bass to the sound, but don't expect it to thump terribly hard.

Is that the rating on the Alpine 3548? Is that RMS or peak?

Not sure, I didn't find any official specs, only numbers listed on somebody's page. No guarantees they're even accurate.

alpine's site didn't have any info on it, except wiring. 120 watts will move a sub, but it might not perform like you are wanting.

the obcon is a decent sub. it gets the job done, and i'd sell it for $50 plus shipping. not sure about the shipping to canada, so i'm not sure if it's worth it for the extra shipping cost.
