The mystery wire on the bpt.

Well, this would be my first post on this fourm.. I am a frequent poster on mx-3.com but I never thought to check on here also. So anyways, last year I swapped a bpt into my mx-3. Everything is fine but there is one thing driving me crazy.. There is one wire unplugged and I dont know where to plug it in.. It definately has something to do with the fuel pressure regulator. The hose coming from the fuel pressure regulator connects into this solenoid valve and when I put this wire to ground you can hear the solenoid click.. The wire is a black wire with an orange stripe and a black connector on the end. What the hell is this for? Should I connect it to ground and leave it? Since the wire is mostly black you would think it is a ground. The car still runs perfect but I would still like to have this plugged into where it is supposed to be. Any thoughts guys?

sure it doesn't have anything to do with your knock sensor?

The wire your talking about is for the knock sensor. The wire won't do you any good unless you get a knock controll box 0ff a turbo 626 and a gtx ecu. THere is also a connector that was for the VICS. but that is a two wire connector. Not sure of its colors. Trace the wire and see where it connects. Than Ill tell you 100% what it is.

Heres the wire I am talking about...

And when you put it to ground you hear this solenoid click..

Then the hose coming off of the solenoid goes to the fuel pressure regulator..

What is it for? Is the fuel pressure regulator supposed to be hooked up this way?

does your water temperature gauge work? it looks a lot like the water thermistor plug for the gauge. It's in the same sorta spot too.

My water temp works fine.. Thats what I thought and it is just the perfect length but that cant be it... My water temp works fine.. I just put the wire to a permanent ground now.. Think it will be fine?

well whatever its for it was designed to be grounded so it should be fine... by the looks of it its designed to peak fuel pressure maybe to adjust for the boost?

So where does the wire connect? Find what sensor it hooks to. Or is it part of the stock bp harness?

I just figured it out!!! It is a ground. The location for it is under the thermoswitch and O2 senser connector- see fig. There should be a little male connection for it.

This wire is a ground wire. You will need to cut off the end and solder a connector to ground it to the existing ground on the block. Quick and simple.
