Mercury Capri similarities with 323gt? Regarding BP swap..

First posting here at this forum, seems as though you guys have a wealth of info and people.

My concern here is about a `91 Mercury Capri. From various other sites, www.feoa.net and others, I have found that the Mercury Capri's had the same engine bay setup as the 323gt's. This similarity makes things much easier since they both have the b6 and f series tranny. There are so many variances of the bf and bg 323 chassis's, one including my ford escort with ford cvh engine.

Knowing this and on this basis (correct me if different), I can get a bp engine for half the price of a replacement b6.

I have been told that the b6's accessory bracket will bolt up to the bp. Correct? Or do I need the bp accessory bracket to use the b6 accessories?

I have also been told my f-series transmission (currently auto, is this a f4-eat genre?) will boltup to the bp. True? How about the midshaft on the axles? (i havent looked moreover at the setup, but I'm leaning to this setup where the mazda engineers made up for torque steer problems.)

Also, I've found out the bp engine was redesigned from the b6 and bored out accordingly, increasing the engine length 22mm. Does the bp engine mount make up for this increase in length?

I've also been told the b6 ecu and harness will work with the bp. This true? Any added vics sensors or what not I need to rewire?

Any help is appreciated. This is on a `91 merc capri 1.6l na setup and wish to use the bp. Locally I can get a 40k bp out of a 91 escort gt (which has proven to have a more aggressive valve lift cam grind) for $375.

Checkout these other threads that have progressed to me being here.

Have you checked into doing a B6T swap? I would imagine that would be easier... being tha they came in the capri's and 323's.

I cannot find an xr2 engine parts car/and or front clip around my area. In any event, the car will be for my sister who doesn't need a turbo for a first car. I have the bp locally and for a really good price.

        Engine mounts differ? Anyone?

if the car is for your sister, why put in a BP in the first place? if there's something wrong with the b6, just put another one in there...

Looks like it won't be as involved as a b6t to bpt, but they talked about a lot of key points that I needed help on.

I'll make a simple bracket for this problem I had.

I wonder if they were somehow able to find a way to use that fseries with the bpt. I also wonder if the oil pans differenciate, and I also wonder if a sohc b8 oil pan will bolt up to the bp and possibly solve this lineup problem. Or go the other way with it, and hopefully the bp g25m bellhousing will work with my f-series transmission, and make everything much more easier, or harder. I would really like to use the current auto tranny and not do a g series swap with axles which I imagine are different, as well as the midshaft housing (aka bearing support) proven different.

Anyone else have fine information they would like to share like this guy? Thanks again.
