    1st Gen Systems

Hey, I've got a 1st gen. I'm going to add some component speakers soon. I was wondering what other component speakers you guys have. I'd like to get 6.5", but I don't want to deal with bulging door panels, or cutting. 5.25" should be fine. My main question is where did you guys mount your tweeters? I was thinking right up by the pillar (lower corners of the windshield), and just doing like a surface mount or something... Post pics as well please. BTW, I have a 94 DX.

I can't fit anything in the stock holes back there, my box is massive. I'll think of something maybe but all I need are the componnents.

Hey, looks like I'm going to get the Oz Audio Vector V3 5.25" comps. They are cheap ($150), and I've read some good reviews on them. The mounting depth is 2 5/8". Is that going to be a problem?

ur window will probably not roll down all the way, since the working depth you have is about 1.75" if im not mistaken.

The problem with mounting the tweeters on the sail panel there is that the gauge cluster hood interferes with the wave from the drivers side, so it can't travel straight across to the other window where it should be hitting. It throws the imaging off. If you can mount them on the door where they have a straight shot across it works a bit better.

I think it sounds just fine, like its comming from in front of me kinda, I dunno I guess you would have to hear it....

But yeah you will have problems with window contact... my mounting depth was about the same as the set your looking at. All I did was make a 3/4" spacer and it was more then enough room... I even got to use the stock water shield.

plus with mounting on the sail panels in a protege, you're not going to be able to use the mounting screws you get with your components unless you use some form of adhesive or a smaller screw.. i went through hell.. hacksawing my screws in half because home depot was closed on that weekend. not to mention.. the level of clarity a good/decent pair of components is going to give you, the highs will be extremely pronounced when you mount the tweeters that high. so many people do this.. but after switching back and forth from sail panel locations to door panel locations.. i always end up putting them in the door. not to mention.. they sound like they should and don't have such an ugly degree of seperation between the mid-bass woofer and your tweets. it all depends on how you amp them, how you cross them over (more than whats considered conventional is what i'd suggest.. ie audio control unit or something along those lines, and also depends on the frequency response of said components. it's a slippery slope i tend not to tempt as my end result always seems undisireable. not to mention, no matter how you tune your tweets.. the frequencys are bouncing off and over amplified by reflecting off your windshield. but afterall.. that is just my simple opinion.

It definitely will produce a decent front stage with them there, but the imaging can get a lot better. If they're not already permanently fastened you should try moving them around to different locations on the door. Try and aim them about at the center of the opposite window for the best imaging. I think you'd be surprised at the possibilities.

Hmmm I will have to try that, all I have to do is remove 2 screws and they are free to move. well see what happens if I get bored.

So I'd have to make a spacer?

Am I gonna have like bulging door panels or anything?

Would the 6.5" fit if I made a spacer?

There's a shop by me that will install these for $60... I'm thinking about just going that route... it's only $60...
