it was from the 1.8v6 MX3.
There was another thread on here about high output alternators, look at some of the other threads, or do a search.

From what I remember I think it was something like
www.h-o-alternators.com or some crap like that.

i couldnt get search to work... sorry for my ignorance...

The ho alt site is nice but 700 for an alternator is high in fact almost 3 times what i paid for the car... I'm just looking for something cheap...

not a bumping system or anything, but when I have the lights and rear defrost on volts drop to 11 at the battery. 14 otherwise... I'm sure a stocker will do but why replace when i can upgrade?

Just wanted to give you a heads up so the man didnt come after you.

626, mx6, mx3, probe alternators are all the same, any alternator that came on the K-series engines.

Its rated at 90 amps instead of the stock 65 and can be retrofitted to a BP without much problems. Look on darryl's site for his how-to on the whole thing: http://mazdaracer.com

                question:
I'll be putting in an amplifier in my car and don't know if it'll suck out all the juice. Not a real powerful one but mediocre.
I just don't want my headlights to dim when I'm listening to high bass outputs. Should stock be ok?

eh, i think if you ask daryl, you might learn a little more about it. yeah, a 626 alternator will bolt in, takes alot of work to nudge that ****er in. my basic assumption was, even though the alternator poors out more power, the pulley size is the limiting factor, so by slapping the 90 or so amp alternator in, you're still only going to get around the stock amounts of 65 or 70 peak amps out of the alternator. i have no clue.. someone prove me wrong. bryan (blueledz) has been working on a bigger alternator for sometime, don't know if he has results yet. but even at that, wasn't there something about 1stmp3 having a bigger alternator installed and turned around and had some problems with it or something? i forget, i'm piecing the parts together from memory... basically, i don't think anyone with a first gen or a protege for that fact has had much luck with bigger alternators.
                  good luck
                  peace

p.s. bro, i'm running 500 watts out of a bazooka amp, 200 watts out of jbl amplifier (actually 100 watts at the moment), and somewhat around 200+ watts out of my headunit.. all strapped to the optima redtop battery under my hood. it's for the most part a midrange system, not EXTREMELY high current drawing, but there isn't a damn thing i can do. pulling the amps out of circuit and just running the headunit powering the rears, you still get some dimming out of your dome light. the dimming is miserable in my car, i'm banking on having to replace the alternator EVENTUALLY. it's just a sad reality for me. stiffening caps are somewhat proven not to do much at all for you, however, thats always worth a shot... good luck

you got the model # you ordered?

I looked on the site and they do not list Mazda as a car manufacturer choice.

I guess the 90-96 escort alternator would work the same seeing as it is the same engine as our BP, but I would like to see the Mazda name on that site.

nice. I may just do that, because the other website wants like 600-700 dollars, for only like 43 more amps.

Thanks for the info. This will be another item to add to the wish of upgrades list.
