Steering wheel not centered to the driver

    Hi all:
I am from Australia (Right hand drive).

    i have a '02 Astina 1.8, 5 door hatch (BJ chassie, FP 1.8 engine)

Guess its like an '99 ES to you guys in the state ?

i love this car, but one thing really bugging me is that the steering wheel isn't seem to be right in front of the driver (if you take the center of the seat as a reference point)

it is really annoying when the drive gets long, arms are not equally stretched.

    anyone felt the same ?

Has anyone with aftermarket seats installed cured this problem ?

is it possible to remount the standard seat to correct this ? (too expensive to get a Sparco/Recaro)

or just a wild thought, steering column can be adjusted ?

    Thanks

    Regard
    Jim

Wow, that is something I have never heard before. This may be a unique problem to right-hand-drive members, which we don't have TOO many of. Maybe we could get some input from them.

That's strange. I've never measured, but it FEELS like the wheel is centered.

I know on my old Ford Escort (built on early Protege chassis here in USA), the wheel wasn't centered on the seat--it was closer to the center of the car; in other words, offset to the right of the seat in a LHD car. Never bothered me, so I never thought about it.

I can't imagine the RHD version would have a significantly different dash or floor; usually it's just a "mirror image." Now you've got me curious. I'm going to go see if my wheel is centered on the seat or not.

I just looked at a head on pic of the front of my car where I can see the steering wheel and the head rest through the glass, best I can tell the center line of both is aligned... at least close enough that I could not tell easily.

the adjustment nuts on the tie rods will get it back to center. But they also adjust the toe. So if your not sure what i'm talking about, take it to an alignment shop. As you can add excessive tire wear with incorrect toe settings.
