B6T into Escort GT Question: Engine Mounts

A friend has pulled the engine off a 88 323GT and, while looking at the engine mounts in a 93 Escort GT, it looks like the locations for at least one mount is not the same. I've searched the forums for a couple of hours but it looks like this swap is straight forward (so no new mounts required(?).

Could someone please tell me in simple terms, I'm not very mechanically inclined, about what, if anything, needs to be done to modify the Escort or 323 mounts to install the engine. Thanks,

I am swapping a b6t into my bg 323 and apparently you only need a 1.6 dohc mx3 passenger side mount.

the B6 is physically shorter then a BP, so yeah you'll need the MX3 mount, I'm pretty sure a 323 one would work too.

Just use the passenger side mount, from a rs mx3 - sohc 323 - . Should be a simple swap..

Thanks for the tips, but ...

... I think my question is still unanswered. Still I thank everyone who responded.

It seems that all respondants had done this transplant into a 323. But I'm trying this transplant into an 93 Escort GT. From what I understand, the location of the Escort mounts are different than the location of the 323 mounts. Therefore, the MX-3 mount is not a plug-and-play solution.

I also understand that the J-Spec 1.8liter GTX engine is a straight-forward swap into the Escort GT mostly due to the location of the mounts and the layout of the throttle body. This info is directly from the escortracing web site. But even this web site does not list the the 1.6 liter as a suitable swap into Escorts.

So I'd love to hear from anyone whose tried to stuff a 1.6 liter Turbo from a 88-89 323 GT into an 91-95 Escort. Otherwise, I may get rid of my Escort GT and get a 90-95 323 hatchback.

ok maybe you didnt understand this... the mx3 escort and protege along with a couple others share the same chassis... aka the bg chassis... they are the same... just the bodys are different... so they did answer your question. get a... "passenger side mount, from a rs mx3 - sohc 323 -" and your good to go.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

                    B6T in a Escort GT

Just dont expect big gains on a swap like that.

The B6T turbo is somewhat small to really feel the difference from the BP block.

The engine does its job well on a 323 1988, its lighter than the 1990 323 and any Protege or GT. I have seen plenty making 16's on a 1988 323 chassis.

The Escort GT with the bigger displacement naturally aspirated is powerful to do easy 16's and 15 highs with basic bolt ons. So, you are installing a smaller displacement with less torque in amuch heavier car.

I have ran ( and yes its me once again) against Mazda 323 1988 model with turbocharged and cant keep up with me, obviously I am not being general as to make it to all 323 cars, but yet non around the block has left me behind.

I would shoot for selling the block to some kid who has a 323, but naturally aspirated so to persuade him for a swap, specially if it is FWD vs. the AWD model.

The golden combination is TO3/TO4 in a 1.8 DOHC block, but it does not mean other combinations wont work. If you are on a tight budget and finding replacement parts cheap is a must then the BP block is a good path to take.

I, myself also would sell both; the B6T plus the BP and call people like Corksport and get a nice GTX BP block.

This is not written in stone...
