    Street drag tires?

hi i have no idea about what tires are good. so im looking to see what i should get.

as of next month i'll be pushing about 160-175WHP with my V6 swaped escort gt...what im wondering is what is the best bargain for tires that will last a reasonable amount of time, work all year, and grip nice for racing from a stop. im not really interested in handling corners and all that stuff, just off the line. money is something i dont have alot of, so please keep this in mind when suggesting tires. thanks!

BFG KDW2s are supposed to be good, dunno about price though. For all seasons I use ZE-512s and they grip well both dry and wet, less than $50/ea. too.

ok kool. im looking at the 185s, do you think it would be better to get bigger 205s or the 185s? i have 205/60's on my car now, and im sick of the enormus looking tires, but if there are benifits to having the big tires then let me know

I'm running 195/65R14s, as they say, wider is better. I didn't realize you could fit 205s on 5" wheels, I was hesitant to get 205s and mine are 5.5" Either way, I'd get the widest tires within spec.

For your purposes, go with the widest tire you can fit exactly as 95ProLeila stated. However, your current 205/60 tire size is too wide for a 5" wide wheel. The MINIMUM wheel width for a 205 or a 195/65/60/55/50 tire is 5.5". If you use a width smaller than the minimum, the sidewalls will be pulled inward, the section width will be decreased and the tread portion will be distorted-all factors that will negatively affect both handling and acceleration.

For a 5" wide rim, 185/65/60 is the widest tire you should consider.

Note that minimum wheel width is dependent on both tire section width and aspect ratio.

My wife has Yokohama Avid tires on her car. They are among the best all-weather tires I've driven on in terms of handling but I don't know how they would be as a drag tire (I don't drag my wife's car).

I disagree with Goldstar. While having a good wheel width/tire width is important, simply going to a wider tire is STILL BETTER than staying on a narrower tire, given similar compounds. That being said, a 205/50!/15 would be a much better fit on the 15 x 5.5 EGT wheels. All EGT wheels were 5.5" wide, and not 5" wide.

Cheap and good off the line would be a set of drag radials. The BFG or Nitto NT555R would be the two in your size choices.

If you just want a decent street tire, the Falken Azenis RT-615 hooks up pretty well, better than the RT-215 did.
