    Escort GTX vs 97-03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

    I had my buddy in the car, the Pontiac just had a driver. We start getting into it half way through first from a stoplight. I pull about a half car on him through second, but he catches while I shift. I only got a bit through third because the road started to turn and I took off the throttle. I would say we were about even. He pulled on me while I shifted and I pulled on him while on it.

    It wasn't bad considering the GTP is a supercharged 3.8l with a 260hp and 280lb-ft of torque output. With an exhaust (mine is still EGT stock) and better shifting I would have had him outright. Funny thing is that as I pull up to the next stoplight to give him the thumbs up, his car smelled really bad - a burning smell.

      I assume the only reason he pulled briefly was because he had a womanly auto?!

        Those GTPs come with 4speed manu-autos with paddle shifters on the steering wheel hehe.

          if you think about it 260hp from a supercharged 3.8 is kind of lame, especially with a slushbox.

            Be it as it may, the car runs quarter miles in the 14's and was surprisingly quick - I was taken by surprise

              And only 450 hp out of a 8.0 v10 isn't like in the viper? DSMs with only 2.0 liters do 450+ like its nothing!

                  yea and dsm's come with 450hp...

                  v10''s do 500hp stock, DSM's do 500hp after being biuilt...and breaking stuff. i beat a GTp by a car legth back in the fall.

                    damn jitb37, did you beat it NA? Maybe it was an older model ... because the one I raced does 0-60 in just over 6 seconds and like I said before, a quarter miles in the 14s.

                    If you were NA, then you're an awesome driver and the guy in the pontiac ... umm miss-shifted the auto?

                      Perhaps. But a 8.0 liter v10 even made in a garage should be able to handle that little power thats my point. Its not much for the size. But yeah DSMs come with what 200ish HP stock on a 2.0? So roughly 100 hp per liter yes? And the viper has 8.0 and only 450... I suck at math but damn the viper is crap!

                        300 horses and 300 ft.lbs of torque from just 2.5 liters on a 4 cylinder. Gotta love the STi.

                          Heh, thanks - it was a close one. If he hadn't started to look like he was going to plow into me going into the turn I would have stayed on it longer and the result would have been clearer. The body lean and him swerving towards my lane on that bad boy looked like trouble

                            and it doesn't take much to get 300 wheel hp either, stage zero reflash, UP/DP, and a cat-back should get you there.

                              man i dont count FI to say that counts as Hp per liter.. The NA mitsu 2.0's make 150/150 hp/tq. by the time u squeeze 400-500hp out of a 4g63, that viper will be at 700-800.


                              I was suprised, but it was a impromto race. the guy was following me, and i turned and he followed on a 2lane street. And he gunned it when we got side by side, and i gunend it aswell. and we were side by side for awhile, and we got up to 90-100 and i started to pull away and got a full carl legth before we stopped. And i was NA, and he was in a 01 model Red 2 door GTP, i could hear the loud eaton whine. he seemed to shift pretty well, i dont know. B/c i thought it was a Manual, until i figured out they never came manual. I gurantee if u race him again, u SHOULD walk the crap out of it..
