my EGT vs an 87 rx-7 351 small block

so this was a couple weeks ago, i was with my now ex-girlfriend driving to a casino, so while i was crusing through a small town, i saw this lowered rx-7 turn in behind me, and it was only a 50 zone so i was doing 60 (km not mph). so we're just crusing then we hit the 80 zone and he hits it before i started to speed up, all i heard was this BRRUUUUUUNNNNN then he was right behind me. and i heard stories of this car weeks before. so i kept driving casually until i hit the on ramp for the highway which is pretty curvy, and to my luck he was going on the highway too, so i punch it through the turns doing about 100ish and he couldnt keep up with me! second of all, as soon as i got onto the highway i just gave it WOT and waited, he was about 10km slower than me on the ramp and once i got onto the highway i could hear him just hammering on it, so i slowed down and waited for him to catch up, so after he came up beside me, we were doing about 90km and i downshifted into 2nd then did the whole WOT again, and he downshifted too, and he couldnt keep up with me!!! he pulled on me when i was shifting gears just due to the fact i was looking to see if he was still behind me before i went into 4th.

after we slowed down he came up beside me and spun his finger in a circle symbolising a turbo spool and i shook my head no, and he had this huge smile on his face and i flashed 3-5-1 on my fingers and he shook his head yes.

guess i had better top end or something, muhahah, and i saw him later on the next week and we did 0-120 and i passed him by about 1/2 a car MAYBE it was tight!

That must have a been a fubared engine, a car that light with a large displacement engine like that, unless of course it was tuned for a truck or something with low-end cams and such, should have owned you. Even if that thing was only making like 250 horsepower it would still be more than your escort could handle

Its pretty simple really... its extremely easy to get big HP out of a V8, and rotarys are a PITA , so take whichever u want =P

I don't think you understand the concept of a sports car. How do you make a fun sports car? Start with a good suspension, strong chassis, light weight, and add power. Who ****ing cares if you do it with a high-reving rotory engine or a high-displacement V8? I can't stand biased car enthusiasts. OMG OMG OMG it has an ancient-designed V8 with pushrods, HAR HAR LOLLLLL. ROFL @ the 6k RPM redline!!111111

One of my best friend's had an RX8 for about a year and a half, he recently sold it. So don't think I'm some rotory n00b who's never driven a rotory car. It was a great handling car, fun to drive, but it was NOT fast. My 100% stock volvo could slowly walk it on the highway.

I'm sure the twin turbo FD is a bit more fun to drive acceleration-wise, but the rotory engine doesn't make the car for me. Rotory's need much more maintenece than a normal car and the engines aren't nearly as 'efficient'. I call efficiency how much fuel you consume for how much power you make. The RX8 saw 20mpg ONCE, that was on a 100% highway drive. Normal driving averaged 13-17mpg. This is in a car that makes a claimed 238hp. My brother in law's father has a LS1 camaro and an LS1 vette, they average 17-19mpg in town and he's gotten 31mpg in the vette on a highway trip. These cars are rated at 350hp.

Who cares how your car gets down the road, so long as it does? Just because I dream of a high-powered reliable and efficient engine in a light, great handling car doesn't mean I'm commiting automotive blasphmeny. I respect anything that's well done, isn't that what being a car enthusiast is all about?
