    Whats with the incorrect info???

I recently used the sticky about the different speeker sizes and install kit numbers. Well it says that 5.25's fit all around. NOT!! I have 6.5's in the rear deck no problem. The fronts are a different story. Although I have 5.25's mounted there, they are definately NOT the correct size for the holes. The 5.25 is to small yet the 6.5 is too big. Do i have an oddball car or is the information incorrect.

they are 6" speakers, problem is noone really makes a 6" speaker so you can get adapters that convert it to 5.25. also, you can make you own wood mount that will allow a 6.5 to fit b/c mouning it about half aninch from the door.

you can get by with a little trimming of the metal like I did to get my 6 1/2's in the door (they were 6x8's). It may be a 6" hole in that year Protege.

I wish I had known before investing in 5.25's that they were 6's. Of corse I'ts my own fault. I should know better than to trust anything I didn't verify myself. I guess at this point I must seek out a set of those 6" to 5.25" adapters. Does anyone know of anyplace on the web that sells em cheap?

Email crutchfield's sales deptmnt. They have items not on their website and are usually around $10 or so for an adaptor.

bro, your car has the capability to fit a 6 1/2 inch speaker, the problem is, with our windows, there is 1 7/8ths inches worth of clearance behind the speaker, which sounds like what you're complaining about. my pioneer 6 1/2's fit flush without rubbing against the window, the 5 1/4 is very tiny. i had a pair of kenwood components (5 1/4's) i shoved in the front doors and they sounded like ass. double check on the sticky for mounting depth, however, 6 1/2 does fit all around. my suggestion to you is find a better speaker with a shallow mounting depth. by the way, i love your install, very nice .
                peace
p.s. looking at crutchfield, as far as singles, the only speaker listed as being compatible with our front doors is a pair of kenwood's.. their ****, trust me

I've never liked Kenwood for speekers either. I have all Audiobahn speekers and the problem I ran into in the doors is the basket of the speeker was too big. amd wouldn't fit flush into the hole. I am stuck with the 5.25's at this point since I've had them in there for over a week. The chrome baskets show even the slightest scratches and I'm sure the place I bought them from would baulk at that. The 5.25's sound OK... but I know they'd sound better if they were more solidly mounted. If I don't have an easy bolt in fix by this week end than I guess the ol' jig saw's comin out to make some adapter rings!

you know, this i know of, and this i haven't really thought about. we had some mounting issues with my friend's honda, we used the right size, just the basket was too large. i don't know where to point you honestly. i've heard polk made a component set that fit in our doors, but i guess custom fabrication is your only bet in this case, i have ****ty pioneer 2 ways in my front doors, and for the time i've had them in there (a year and a half), i haven't had ANY problems with them. the sound is something left to be desired though good luck bro

bro, just had to rewire my sound system and decided to get some new front speaks while i was at it.. and i'll tell you what, the 6.5 audiobahns (model AS62Q) wouldn't fit in the door, period.. we ended up surface mounting them onto the door panel by cutting out the opening needed (some of the door panel grille was NOT covered by the rim of the speaker) cut out a piece of abs plastic to go on the other side of the door panel and sunk the screws in through the door panel and the abs plastic. we then remounted the door panel and BAM, enough clearance, and sound AWESOME to boot! our door panels are NOT thick enough to support the mounting of a speaker.. and bear in mind, this is an 94 LX door panel. hope this helps a little bit
