92se moonroof to 91 gt metal roof

    Hi

Just wondering if anyone here has changed the metal roof on a 91GT?

I have a 92SE with a moonroof that i want to put into the GT

Do I have to drop the headliner?
How would i get the sunshades out?

    Thanks for any help!

I've only swapped metal for metal, so that didn't require dropping the headliner, but it may in your case, since that sunshade slides back....infact, it's possible that the entire track must be changed...but the metal roof has a headliner piece that slides back too, so you may get away with removing nothing but the panels themselves.

Inspect the track area carefully for similarities in both looks and function.

i know there was a thread somewhere about swapping 1st gen roofs with escort glass roofs. . . maybe on the other forum.

Well I got my metal roof out last night, it was pretty easy
tonight i may take out the glass roof for the swap
if worst comes to worse i may just move the roof and leave the sliding shade behind...

I also swapped my 92 tails to the 91 -- looks pretty good with the black car!

A moonroof is metal a sunroof is glass. I did this swap along time ago and the sunshade is not needed. The glass is tinted enough to not bug u inless your a vampire or something. I think its 6 nuts and it will pull out rip the moonroof cover out also ..Jon

I'm pretty sure it is the other way around. My old interga had a moon roof. It was glass. My dad's volvo had a sunroof. it was metal.

Yeah, Jon got it backwards. Protoss was your dad's Volvo a crank sunroof? Since I got my LX I've realized how much better a power one is, but I would still actually prefer not to have a sunroof.

"Sunroof" is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. "Moonroof" is a term created by Ford in the 70s, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs.

Opps my bad . You dont need the sun screen but do need the clips around the base of it. might need to trim alittle also if u dont wanna hear it rattle ..Jon

I am positive that a "moonroof" is a glass panel - I think it is in the name - just think about the moon light shining through in the evening.

Anyway I swapped the 2 last night - very simple - i did leave the sun shade in the other car though so i dont have that feature, but thats ok.
it was 6 nuts on the metal and 8 nuts on the glass.
One thing that i noticed though was that both of them stick a little bit now when going from up to slide in. i think it is just the different weather stripping not a big deal i guess.
