    Tranny fluid

i was reading the manual the other day and it said that i had to purchase a new washer for the transmission fluid nut. does anyone know where one could purchase that? also, what would be a good manual tranny lubricant to use that you guys recommend?

I recently used Amsoil synthetic gear oil. Whatever was in there used to get crunchy when cold. This stuff is slick as butter whether its cold or not.

I use Red Line MT-90 gear oil. You can get transaxle oil fill and drain plug sealing washers from your mazda dealer. The part no. is: 9956-41-800. The socket wrench size for the fill and drain plug bolts is 23 mm.

          Boricua,

Good point! I honestly don't know. You had better check it out before you end up buying the wrong part. Sorry.

hey, no prob! I'm going to check to see if they still even make them at the dealership. but i wonder why we have to purchase a new washer every time we do the tranny fluid. this will be my first time, thats why i don't know.

                        Re: tranny

Four quarts seems too much. According to the FSM, the 02 manual transaxles take 2.83 US quarts. Unless, of course, the oil capacity for the 2nd gens is much greater than that of the 3rd gens.

Um, last i remember when changing trany oil in my 98, ut was 2.8 also. BTW Redline oil is very nice when it comes to shifting

WTF? going from 2.8 to 4 is a big discrepancy. which one is it? and can i get redline at a local store or do i have to buy it online?
also, i was looking at the manual and i'm still unclear as to where exactly i refill the fluid at. also my manual is kind of ghetto and i;m not quite sure where the drain plug is. i'm guessing its to the left of the oil pan more towards the drivers side, but i'm not sure.

                              Boricua,

You can e-mail Red Line for a dealer near you. I did that and found one just 8 miles from my house. When I changed my oil, I put in just under 3 quarts. Any more and it would start running out of the fill hole. I am sure this is the right amount. Also, make sure you use MT-90 as this is the correct weight for the protege when using Red Line.
