Shifter linkage hitting engine mount in GTX swap?

I finished my gtx swap recently, it has been wonderful so far but for the fact that the lower shifter bar gets snagged on the rear engine mount. The linkage only has about a 1/2 inch clearance from that mount stock (if that). Now i have about 1mm of clearance. Whenever i try to go into certain gears it snags and i cant shift. Has anyone else had this problem? I found a temp. solution by flipping the bar over so that it angles the opposite direction from the mount, but its only temp. because it also makes the shifter bar hang down really low. Any ideas?

yea thats a problem i had with my bp swap when i first did it. What you need to do is flip the bolt around, because the bolt head is whats blocking you, because it pokes out too far. Flip the bolt the other way so that the flat side and not the hex side is poking out. This WILL give yuo enough clearance and you should be straight. The most difficult part will be getting the bolt out, you might have to jack up certain sides and maneuver it out of there somehow. Good luck and let us know how it goes, []Deace

I just ground my bolt down to get clearance before realizing that the LX rear mount was different from a all the other SOHC versions. the shift linkage is also different. make sure you have the right parts.

In my Escort LX Wagon swap, I just flipped the bolt. However, if you actually look at the shift linkage arm between the escort GT and the escort LX, you will notice that although the end is the same, the offset of the arm to end-tube is different. On the LX, it's closer to the mount, and on the GT, it's towards the other side.

I'll try to take some pictures to show the difference, but it might be a few days before I climb under the car to take a pic of the LX bar. I've got a cut-up end of a GT bar floating around somewhere though (was still attached to the JY tranny when I got it...).
