    Another problem

K this is kinda long im sorry..................................ok i thought my alternator was going, so i get another one jump car bring it to get replaced but when i get there i turn car off to see if it starts it does. so i do it 3 more times and it starts. so instead of bringing to shop i bring it to autozone to have alt tested. well they couldnt do it right then so i drive home, right b4 i get home cluster gauges start acting all weird my tach jumps from idle to 8k and then cluster shuts off and needles stay where they are but cr is still runing. So get it home put in reverse car dies. jump it again bring back to shop they check alt when car is running and alt is good has good reading, shut car off and battery is tested bad. ok so i figure i need new battery, but then again im thinking what if alt is just going in and out works whne it wants. so heres the deal i leave drive car around with lights, blower and radio on after bout 15 mins radio starts to turn on and off on its own, so once it does that i shut blower lights, and radio off car is fine, or even if i have just 2 of the three on car is fine but then will start to act weird. so s it really the battery? cause battery thats in the car is only 3 weeks old, and granted its the lowest brand battery out there still, i dont wanna go buy another newer better battery if its just gonna die again. so can someone please tell me if its the battery or if its the alt playing games and working when it wants? cause i know if the alt was not working car wouldnt even run after i jump it, but mine does, it runs fine until i put the lights radio or blower on.....sorry this is so long and who ever reads it all i am so greatful, but just wanna make sure u all know everythig that happened so u can tell....

could be your belt dude, i know when mine slipped it was QUIET, like you couldnt hear it slipping, because it wasnt my alternator, try replacing your belt then going from there.

also an easy test to perform

start the car then unhook the negative batter cable, if the car dies, then your alternator is bad, if it doesnt die, could be a belt or your battery

        Hmm...

Well...this SORT OF thing happened to me once as well...it ended up being the plug on the distributor. I would check that connection and see if that could be it as well...other than that, not sure what it could be...
        Hope this helps.
Lookin' to boost my BP. Any help at all on this subject would be benificial to my success.

well if the battery tested bad, I would definitely replace it. If you don't it could knock the alternator out if it hasn't already. If there is any corrosion on the battery I would definitely clean it with a wire brush and baking soda paste or battery cleaner spray.

K well i did what mazda powered said, i started car and unhooked negative battery terminal and car stayed running, so im guess alt is good, i replaced battery with a good one, so all is good, ill know in a couple days though if its something else, like a short, or my alt working when it wants....

just to let you all know, on vehicles that voltage regulators built into the alternator,,, never unhook the battery with the engine running. You can blow the diodes in the alternator. In case you are wondering if your car has a voltage regulator in the alternator, most cars after the mid 80's went to the combo units. Now adays all cars have on board regulators built in.

if its for a quick second you're ok rusty, i've been doing it to all my cars with no problems in the end or months down the road, its just to check if the alternator is holding charge or not.
