    help me settle my discussion

hey guys, i was just talking to a friend (colins323) and we were discussing engine swaps.

do you think that a KL 2.5 V6 swap in my protege gt (factory bp powered) is WAY harder than a BP swap in a 323? i mean like proper swapping, harness and ecu

because they both involve the same idea, except with the 2.5 because of the horizontal crossmember, brake booster line, and MAYBE the speedometer cable...nothing to difficult if you know what you're doing.

because for a proper swap, they both invovle swapping:

    engine
    tranny
    ecu
    harness
    vaf or maf
    some engine mounts
    axles
    and various plumbing

so guys, they're both fairly straight forward swaps right? and the KL is only parts away from being the same type of swap?

    thanks

    JACK

ZE would be more work than the BP in a 323.

yea, but im talking (no offence) a proper swap, so swapping the wiring harness and what not for the BP swap.

That is a proper swap. If the harness is the same for all but two wires (I believe for VICS), you'd be stupid to rip out the entire harness.

            ZE would be more work.

i repinned the harness to fit the bp properly, so that it was just as plug and play and the bp harness.

as far as the tranny, besides sourcing it the tranny itself, there isn't anything additional that needs to be taken off. i.e : the tranny comes off during the swap anyway, your just putting a different one on.

if i remember correctly the ZE needs the air condition line changed, along with the power steering lines, the crossmember, ect. since we are comparing "proper" swaps

ZE is harder to do if you're doing both "right". No contest.

But, if you're like me and get a woody at the sound of the 6's exhaust note, it's alllll worth it.

You'll have a much easier time making power with the BP though. Many more bolt-ons, too.

you think the BP is better for building on mike? i personally think the 2.5 is better to do, better powerband, around the same weight, more horsepower stock that the BP, and the like you were saying...the sound

but yea, im going to do the V6 swap, like i was going to do on my escort, i like FI, but meh, this is more reliable, JE pistons, full rebuild, re-balance everything, P&P heads intake mani and TB, headers...should be fun

The BP will be easier and cheaper to make much more HP.

According to dyno sheets I've seen around and various posts, doing what you listed will max you out at the most 200whp. If that.

lol, more is needed that just mounts.

I have a BP in my GS, and trust me, its more than mounts.

Was gonna say......don't think there is much room. I've seen pics of swaps, the manifolds are almost touching the radiator.

The 6 swap is pretty simple, but it still has one flaw that doesnt really have a 100% way of installing a radiator, or what radiator to use, so your gonna have to figure out your own way. EIther use the stock protege radiator, find another one , or get a custom one made. The problem with the pro radiator is that the locations of the inlet/outlets make it difficult to hook the hoses form the motor up to it with the room provided. And the GS Radiator is too wide. The mx3 RS radiator has the same inlet/outlets as the LX radiator. Im gonna try ou the gs radiator tho and see if i can squeeze it int here or soem up with soemthing. but iv ebeen using the protege radiator for the itme being.

They both are easy... but the kl swap is just gonna give u more work..

just add shifter linkage - crossmember - Mounts -axles ,with the kl which is a cake walk once the motor is out. Just depends on what u can get yoru hands on and yoru access to parts.

and the tq and sound of a 6 cant be mached it just feels totally different
