I am using moddified stock(cut with cutoff wheel)

I have no doe to buy some good springs. I have already test drove it and already handles better.

Looks a lot better. It's kinda weird how high your car was before though.

When I cut them I left enough spring so there is tension on the springs with the wheels fully extended. I just when for a drive and the car doesn't dip as much when you hit the brakes, corners much better, and rides just as nice as before even going over the bumps, it actually takes the bumps a little better.

Mine was/is the same way. I put some no-name springs on it and it lowered it a decent amount, but compared to most Proteges it's not much lower. i recently found this out when i parked next to a sand mica(i think thats the color) mix of a protege(it had the 95/96 center garnish, 98 steering wheel & front grille, I dunno, something else looked strange on it, almost like the dash was a mix of 95/96 and 97/98, but im just tired so eh)

Im only like an inch or so lower compared to that. I'm thinking about maaaaybe getting a new set of springs myself, but its hard to decide how much to drop, since i was never at what now seems like a 'normal' ride height

I agree, I would have to get full coilovers inorder to get low enough to make the car look right except for cutting like i did today. My wife would kill me if I put coilovers in it because they ride too hard for her. Yet I don't want a lifted car.

Your car looks so much better than when you first started posting. I can't beleive how much you have gotten done in such a short period of time.

I know it's spelled protege! I just can't change it. Deal with it!

You should see how much I have done to my friends cars, and my other car since then as well. So far all the mods I had done on the pro have cost me just under $150. My friends have been donating cash or parts to the cost to keep me going on my projects, or I will create a mod. Such as gutting the second cat which was one of the first things that I did.

rusty, the car looks good. reminds me of when i used to have the coilovers.

the bad thing, when you slam the front of the car that much, you lose out so much suspension travel. did you cut the bump stops?

Yeah I cut the bump stops in half. I have a pretty good amount of suspension experience, so I do know the pros and cons of cutting. If you know what you are doing cutting isn't real bad. Still not the best way to go!!!, but the springs I want are over $200. I will have to hold off on new springs. I actually think the only springs that I will be able to use to get the propper look will be coilovers, or fullcoilovers. Chassis tech makes full coilover to your spec for spring rate for $280 per pair. I may go that route after we move. I have so many plans on hold right now for both of my project cars due to trying to save money for the move.

the 2nd gen proteges could really benefit from a shortened strut. i was really hoping that someone would buy the koni inserts. with the koni inserts, a shortened AND adjustable strut would be awesome. maybe i'll look into that when i need more struts again.

Yeah I would agree we do need shorter struts. I think once get get settled in up in NY I am gonna start looking at getting full coilovers and buy them a pair at a time. I figure we will do the front first then go from there.
