2002 Grand Prix GTP Carbon Fiber

One of my co-workers wants to know what exists out there for the GTPs.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for all mods for GTPSs?
Primarily, he wants Carbon Fiber parts, just to make his car lighter.

Worthless. Tell him to throw out his back seats and spare tire first.

CF isn't going to shave but a few measly pounds off the car. He will NEVER see performace improvements from it.

Besides, I doubt he even really wants it to save weight. If that's what he says, he's either lying (and wants it for looks) or is really misinfomed thinking he'll see any difference in the way the car performs.

        well.. he's 43...
i think he heard me say "Carbon Fiber" and "lighter car" in the same sentence and thought he could do it for his car.

I told him that carbon fiber is usually only applied to small cars with small engines (relative) where the weight of a car actually makes a difference.

And it makes no difference there either.

Nobody's car handles better or accelerates faster because of a carbon fiber hood.

It's pointless - even on "small" cars.

            every little bit helps..
weight is always an issue... if a car weight 200lbs less, it would accelerate faster, especially when that consists of 10% of the initial weight.. that's just basic physics.

A carbon fiber hood *might* save 40-50 lbs. Not even close to 200.

~$600 to gain a thousandth of a second?

Your buddy could probably shave more time off by going on a diet.

Like I said - if he's so worried about weight, he should lose the spare tire, back seat, A/C, etc, etc.

You are right - every little bit helps. But in the real world a carbon fiber hood doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

The really funny part will be if your buddy does get a CF hood, and then talks about how he feels the car accelerating faster or handling better.

hahaha. i don't think he can lose any weight. he's scrawny..
he doesn't wanna race.. i think he's having a mid-life crisis... hence the buying of the car..

he wanted an entire CF body for his car... but my laughter somewhat seized that idea of his...

good to know, though.. i thought CF hoods were like 75lbs or so lighter...

on a GTP, i assumed they were thicker and they are much larger... i just guessed..

If he wants if faster, just get a smaller SC pulley. Instant 20hp, easy to swap in and out for warranty work

Like hiho is saying, carbon fiber parts really won't make much of a difference at all, unless you're redoing all your body panels or something. I'd be suprised if they even may CF stuff so early for the car, they JUST came out.
