So today I decided, oh what the heck, I got another motor. So I went out and started to tune for 20psi. Well at 20psi my engine was doing fine, the o2 was actually oscallating. So I turned low boost back to 15, switched to highboost, and instantly got a boost spike that pegged the needle at 2 bar (28psi) and BOOM-clank-clank-clank. Looked in my rearview mirror, oil, then shut the key off (it was still running on 3 cyl) and pulled off to the side. A cop drove by and just waved, I thought he was laughing... but Ya, 28psi on an untuned engine made it go. There were chunks of oil pan and pieces of a rod on the road, so while waiting checked the spark plugs and cyl1-3 were very dry/detonation looking, cyl4 the low compression one was dripping in oil and black...

an hour later after getting my free AAA Plus tow to my house I am gonna start on the swap this weekend or next week.

Dammit - that's not good news - sorry to hear man. So, at what RPM did you hit the spike? Was your foot to the floor?

Did 20 psi last till 7000RPM on the VF10?

I didn't get a chance to find out, Just did a couple 4,000 drops at 60 with spinning one tire, and then I went to switch over to high boost settings and the profec I guess wasn't ready, pinned the guage and BAM, it was all over. But from 4,000-6,000 it held 20psi.

You think detonation broke the rod, or just too much power?

ya, I found parts of the rods on the roadway. I didn't think it was gonna blow up like that, never thought I would have that bad of a boost spike, that is the worst ever...

But ya, I will tare it down and take pictures.

                      What rods were they?...

Seems like all the Auz guys blow rods... that's the first thing to go for those crazy fast island racers.

you werent tuned for it and your turbo was out of its efficiency range. I'm getting the impression u just wanted to blow it up, right? Oddly enough, i'll go out on a limb and say that u can push 25psi on our motors without a problem, if tuned right.

Yes you can. And you can get around 450whp with 25psi. But yes, I wasn't tuned, and I was taking the chance of blowing it up, Just didn't expect the boost spike that high.... It was fun. And it will be educational. First blown engine for me and my friends.

rods in a bp and rods in the gtx bpt are the same. just cast. the gtr gets all the attention! i know the gtx will take 20-21psi with ease mysta316 did it for 2 years on his CS hybrid turbo set-up. it also made his escort run mid 12's on small slicks and an open diff. he never dyno'd it tho so his power is unknown.
