    VAF to MAF Conversion?

I have a 91 1/2 Escort GT with the 1.8. It has the VAF on it and I want to convert to a MAF. It has the 6 pin connector, is there any others that would be compatible to use? I found at the local salvage yard the 1999 ZX2's use a 6 pin but don't know if that would work. Any help would be appreciated.

That would be real nice but it's a whole different way of sensing how much air is going in. I had the idea that it may be possible with a SAFC to convert the signal but not sure if anyone has done this. Corksport sells a converter but it was way expensive.

is there some benifit i dont know about for switching between the two? they do the same thing and the stock unit or rx7 unit can handle plently of flow and power.

unless you're going to MAP, don't even bother.

          1. its vam not vaf
          2. vam is obd1 / maf is obd2
          3. obd2 had two o2 sensors
          4. ecu pinouts are totally different
          5. just not worth the hassle
          6. zx2 = all ford / egt = mazda
          7. not sure which but more sensors are needed to read air temps on a maf system

I would agree with atomicegt, don't bother going MAF, MAP would be much more benificial. If for some reason you still want to us a MAF, the 98 zx2 is a 4 wire, and the 99 and new is a 6 wire. The six wire has a AIT sensor built in, where as the 98 had the ait in the air box.

Ok now that that is settled, is the VAW on the RX7 bigger than the stock EGT?
If so, would it plug right in without any adaptations? The way everyone is talking, I would assume it would. Just looking to increase airflow without having to go to full MAP conversion.

Yes, the B-code RX-7 VAF is 3", and the EGT VAF is 2.5". You will need a 2.5"-3" silicone adapter, and to tune it.

realize though the gain is only after 6k or so. otherwise, you'll notice no difference anywhere else.

That's ok, the more air the better. My Tranny since the first post bit it. I got 190k out of it. I picked up a used one with 40k and want to put some synthetic gear oil in it. This was not part of my plan ..lol...but since I have to put in a new clutch and flywheel may as well put a tranny in too. http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/misc...0&forumid=142#

uh, the g-series box doesn't use gear oil...

                          Fluid?

My bad, I want to use synthetic fluid in either case. I got the new one out of another 91 Escort GT (I think), so just to check, where would I look to find which series the tranny is? How do you get the spedo cable assy. out to put the fluid in?

they use ATF, and if you got the tranny from another gt, it would be a g-series. there's a 10mm bolt holding on the clip for the speedo gear assembly, take that off and the assy. should wiggle out.

Already removed bolt and retainer clip, now the plastic piece where the spedo cable goes should come out then, right?
