So umm do you THINK A "Ford" motor is more reliable then a "Mazda" motor? I sure don't! Sure they have come a long way especially recently but...

My bad it was 170 from the SVT, which is what I want

thers a guy on ERDt that put one in his Escort about 4 years ago. Its a simple swap, much like the v6 swap, find a Zx2 and go to work..lol It prob wouldnt be too expensive either those motors are pretty easy to come by. Decent motors also. But it would be hard to find a Svt Zetec, for a decent price. If your gonna spend taht money might as well go with the 2.3L Duratec. But the zetec wouldnt be a bad swap, they make tons of stuff for that motor, i heard they have tiny rods tho. honestly it would be a nice swap.

Ill gueestimate on waht would be needed:

            Zx2/Contour/Focus/Mystique - Zetec 2.0/tranny

            Zx2 - Mounts-axles-ECU-harness

not sure about the crossmembers, but i think it would be a easy swap

Look at it like this: The focus uses the 2.0l sohc SPI and the 2.0 Dohc Zetec, the 3rd gen escort uses the 2.0 sohc Spi motor. that motor basically drops right into the 2nd gen escorts, and its basically a stroked version of the 1.9 sefi sohc motor in the escort LX, and shares alot of the same things. ill guess and say that the only difference in the ZTS dohc focus engine bay and the Sohc SPI 2.0 focus engine bay is probrably the mounts,a nbd the obvious harness. Might not even have diff mounts. Now we know that the 2g escort has the same bay as pro/323... i hope that all makes since... See how it all works..

poor tuning leads to the zoom zoom boom club. the turbo system is plenty reliable as a daily driver & can still maintain good gas mileage. Thats my reccomendation, TURBO pwns

theres was a "00" escort with a 2.0L in the junkyard and all the mounts look like there in the sameplaces, the wiring harness is in the same spot. the main attraction to this swap is the possibility of getting a wrecked SVT and getting a Getrag 6 speed manual.

the transmitions are cable shift, so I'd either need to source a 4wd shifter or figure out the mounting for it, no to hard

yummy zetec. remember you will need to run a cat and both o2 sensors to make stuff work right without a cel. although i truthfully would go with the 2.3 also. a lil les hp but tq tw is a good thing. and there are quite a few comapny makeing parts for them. i saw one that took a focus with one and got 170 something whp with cams cai and headers cam gears and computer tuneing on a slush box. so there is some serious power to be had there.

the svt contour is a v6. if you do that, just do the KL since its a bolt in.

Zetec would be cool, and should all bolt in. Just need to figure out wiring or swap the ZX2 harness if you get a parts car.

You have a couple options with your zetec:

you can use either the SPI tranny or SPI axles, or ZX2 tranny or ZX2 axles. Although if you go zetec, you may as well use the ZX2 axles since you will have equal length axles and jackshaft like a BP setup. The SPI uses one long and one short axle like a 1.9L but will still work in a ZX2 trans. You can use whatever flywheel/clutch setup you want, just make sure you have the correct starter to go with it. I currently still have my stock 1.9L, SPI tranny/axles, ZX2 clutch/flywheel/starter in my car right now. works just fine. I have a ZX2 tranny in my garage for a spare, when/if the SPI trans ever dies.

I doubt you will have to mess with the crossmember at all, just maybe the 2 torque mounts, but I think my rear torque mount was the same for the 1.9 trans as it was for the SPI/ZX2 trans, and just the front one was a little different.
