    Factory Amp?......

I have the 91 Escort GT with premium sound and there looks to be a factory amp under where the radio is mounted, Question is.............

Any idea how to get the factory amp, if one, to work with an aftermarket stereo?

Or at least a good wiring diagram showing the connections?

Not having any more info than what your telling us. I'd say to check and see if its the speaker wire signal going into the amp, or like every aftermarket amp, with the preamp outputs.

I know that there are amps out there that you can hook up your speaker wire up to incase you are using a factory deck and don't have the preamp outputs.

Either way the amp hooks up, you should be able to use it with an aftermarket deck.

Hope this helps a little if any. Good luck.

Can't really give much more info, I pulled my factory h/u and looked below it and saw what appeared to be a factory amp, I figured since the car has the premium sound in it, it should have an amp of some sort.

I am just trying to figure out how to get it to work without the factory h/u. I used to have a diagram but it really didn't show an amp of any type.

I'll keep searching the threads for any info, but I figured put a heads up out there to move me in the right direction.

Not sure, haven't looked into it that far, but I'm sure it can.

What's this about about "I think" or "I'm sure" it can be taken out. Ofcourse you can remove the amp! If it was put in it can come out. It's not like they put the amp in and then welded a piece of metal around it so you couldn't remove it. Take the plastic panels off. Unscrew whatever needs to be removed, unplug it and take it out. Show us the connector that goes from the radio to the amp and the back of the amp. I doubt it's going to be either speaker wire directly into a wire coming out of the amp or regular/standard RCA jacks and plugs. It's probably going to be like the Protege. The Protege has a proprietary plug and jack combination. You will probably have to find out what wire color goes to what by following each one if there's no wiring diagram available. You will then cut the cables and so on. If it was just the radio you wanted to swap, there's always the connector adapters available at auto parts stores and such. I doubt anything like that is available for the amp jack which will probably be different.
