    ZL-VE head on ZM-DE. questions

    Hey,

I just bought a 3rd gen ZM-DE 1.6l protege. good car... lacks power... especially when moving into it from a BPT escort...

anyhow, I've been reading up. At first I was just interested in getting some VICS with the euro-spec ZM intake mani and an RPM switch... but that just won't cut it.

what I really want is to change the head for the ZL-VE 1.5l with VVT. www.protegefaq.net says it's a direct bolt on swap, but that I'll need to figure out how to control the VVT solenoid. bummer... they give no indications. just say to ask the miata guys... been there done that, maybe not on the right boards, I dunno, but no answers for me.

Has anyone here gone that way before? or has anyone done research on it and figured out how to do it?

    thanks,

    Etienne

What you need is a frequency meter to measure rpm and output a voltage. The higher the voltage the more advanced the cams.

Your gonna need the actual voltage numbers from someone. Or you could guess and check.

meh.... since I want this car to keep it's reliability. I'm not gonna do it..

I'm still looking into the intake manifold swap from a Euro ZM though... that's pretty safe no matter what... I'll get it to work with a simple RPM switch to the solenoid, and I'll play around with what RPM its best to open the VICS at...

thanks for the info though! might be useful to someone else down the road!

Id be interested to see/hear what you come up with. I too have some interest in swapping out my IM for the Euro IM. Could more gains be reached if a port job is done as well?

Not really Ill be in possesion of one in a few weeks.
Going to europe and getting it myself! Getting a bunch of 323 badges too. From what I hear the gains are insane.

The edm's are making 130 whp. With just an intake and exhaust. Should really open up the power above 5200, where we need it.

Didnt know the demand was so big.

what? the gains are insane from the 323 badge? who'd a though... lol.

think you can bring me a mani back too? I don't have the luxury of going there to get it.

how much is it costing you for it?

anyhow, I'M having issues getting one. if anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated...

Whats the new news Zero?? You ever get your hands on that manifold? If so, what did it cost you and would it be possible to get your hands on a couple more?
