    SVT tranny????

I was wondering if anyone has ever done a Focus SVT tranny swop, and if so how hard was it? my buddy crashed his into a tree and i was thinking of buying it back from the insurance companyfor the 6 speed. Will it bolt up right, has it been done before?

    Thanks Matt

I've read that nothing from a Focus is compatible with a Protege.

the focus is a ford based and built car. its not at all mazda loving! tho the tranny may be a bellhousing swap awayfrom working granted the axels would fit and the diff would work with whatever bellhousing case you use.

the transmition is a Getrag tranny, which means it is neither ford nor mazda made, also the transmition mounts are different on the frame rail and the crossmember.

I thought of doing the swap for the motor and tranny but you need a whole parts car to make it work.

teh 6speed is overrated. it only drops you about 200-300 rpms at freeway speeds. also escort gt's are as fast as svt's in the 1/4 mile. thats due to the svt weighing a poop load.

damn, so i was right. my friend claimed he would kick my ass in a race with his SVT, i told him it would be close. he wrecked it before i had a chance to try.

they may not be consistantly faster but they are not all the hype they should be. they will out handle a egt or plx in a heart beat tho!

stock they will out handle but lets see 15 grand for a used svt. or i can spend 1000 on a egt rebuild the engine turbo it go with a full poly suspension s/r struts hr springs and some nice sway bars and a set of kumho mx's and spend less than 6 grand and destroy that svt handling and accel.... ill take option 2 thanks.

u could really put that whole motor/tranny into the bg, if u have the whole vehicle available. theres quite a few zetec powered 2nd gen escorts.

6 speeds are over rated. for a turbo car they really are overkill for a highstrung na motor with a small powerband they are great otherwise not really neccessary just more shifting

The Zetec Escorts use the ZX2 engine because it has the same engine mounts, the Focus' Zetec is a different ballgame.

As far as SVT vs BP powered I had no problem taking down an SVT Focus with my basically bone stock EGT. We both pretty much stopped at the same time though around 70mph so who knows how it would have gone if he saw 6th gear.
