Difference between DOHC manual/auto hub assemblies

How much if any difference is there between the hub assemblies on a manual lx vs. auto lx? Are the splines different where the half shafts go in?

When I had to replace my wheel bearing and hub on my 93 escort gt, I got a hub from a 323. The splines are the same, except they are a little shorter. It's hard to explain. There is an half an inch or so space without splines on the escort gt hub and on the 323 hub there is more like 3/4in to 1in space on the 323 hub. The axle ends are the exact same between the two (I measured)just the hub has shorter splines. I wound up using the 323 hub and have had no problems.

Cool, I need to replace my wheel bearing and hub on my passenger side. I just wanted to know what my options were at the junkyard. I think I'll end up getting one from a EGT cause I found two of those and the hubs look better on the EGT's than the ones on the pros I found.

And in case you wanted to know WHY I need a new hub assembly/wheel bearing. Well one day I started hearing a noise coming from the right wheel, later that day the car pulled hard to the right and sounded even more awful. I limped into a parkinglot to investigate. Here is what I saw:

          Talk about some negative camber:

Turns out that when I swapped out half shafts I didn't stake down the nut all the way and the nut came off. (DOH!) The axle started seperating from the hub. I had to get a tow home. I took the wheel off and the stake nut fell out. When I took off the caliper and brake disc the ****in center piece of the hub fell on the ground.

I added a bunch of greese in there, put everything back together and staked that bitch down good this time.

Everything held up and it drives fine but I have a horrible "scraping" noise now. My guess is the wheel bearings are shot now, so im just going to replace the entire hub assembly.

You might want to check the Miata hubs also. I think that the Miata front hub (up until '97, at least) might be the same as the Protege rear hub.

I also think that the Miata rear hub is the same as the Protege front hub.

The Difference in the Hubs for the 90-94 Proteges are:
a Lx Protege will have the same hubs either auto or manual,
SOHC and 323's have a smaller axel size compared to the DOHC.
DOHC hubs splines are bigger than SOHC hubs.
when my tranny started to loose gears I went to get a new one, they gave me one from a 94 MX-3, my axels did not fit in the tranny, and the clutch splines are diffrent. They gave me multiple transmissions, nothing would work finally they gave me one out of a 95 Escort GT, which I have been running on ever since this summer.
