    ported fiberglass box?

    hey guys. . .

im thinking about redoing my audio for show.

it's still going to be all power acoustic:

    power acoustik components up front
    power acoustik 6.5's in rear
power acoustik a/b 4 channel amp
    power acoustik a1800db
power acoustik fubr (1 or 2, i'd rather have one) or a single mofo
power acoustik pwm-20 eq mounted in front of cupholders
    power acoustik 2.4F digital cap

run new 0ga to cap/dist block

im going to build it into a fiberglass box/amp rack. . but if i do that i want to make it a ported box.. .is that possible (lets say i make the base out of mdf and make the port there at teh bottom front (so i can make a square port) and then just fiberglass the top or try to make some kind of round port near the sub

um...im not sure if understand completely but yes you could have mdf be on the base of your box and fiber glass everything else if thats what your asking... just attach your polles or whatever you will be using to it and stretch the material over that.... not sure about have a square port though....

well i mean if i did the square port it would be built into the base of the box (ie made with mdf)

im just wondering how that would affect the tuning of the box

if i wasn't on dial up i'd find some good pics for you i've seen some sweet ported fiberglass boxes. anyways, as long as you have the appropriate cross sectional area and length of port, the tuning does not change. however, the sound waves do, and how the rear wave interacts with the front comes into play. around the tuned freq, it won't matter, since most all the sound comes from the port. about 1 octave above the tuned freq (twice the tuned freq), is where you might get some cancellation, depending on direction/location of the port. as long as you don't have the port 180 degrees opposite the sub, don't worry about it, though

lol, think of the waves in water. what happens when 2 waves hit each other? the closer they are to 180 degrees apart (opposite direction) when they hit, they destroy each other. and the closer they are to the same, 0 degrees off, they reinforce each other, making the wave stronger
