95 escort lx rear main seal!

ok i just did the clutch in one of my escorts, i figured while i was in there i would do the 1 piece rear main seal, when i did it i took out the housing that the rear main seal sits in, its held in by about 4 bolts, i that off, cleaned up the surface, put a new gasket, used aviation for an eaven beter seal, and i pressed the rear main seal into the housing, then befor putting the housing back in, i lubed the rear main seal, re installed it and torqued the bolts down, figure it would be fine, so i put the tranny back in everything seems fine, drove good ran fine, and i park it, and what do i see, oil leaking!! ,i havent took it back apart yet, has anyone esle had this problem, ive done rear main seals befor, and never had a problem, this sucks... so mayb i made a mistake, if i did could somebody point it out, thanks

Are you sure your oil leak is from the rear main?

ya im pretty sure its leaking from the rear main seal, im thinking that the housing that the rear main sits in, when you install it the bottom of it is sealed by the rubber oil pan gasket, so im hoping that mayb i put a little rip in it putting it back in, so im going to go for the oil pan gasket first, hell of alot easier than taking the trans back out..

        This is true.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

A big problem is that there isn't a gasket for the oil pan. Basically there is two rubber seals for the front and the back and the rest is silicone. If your going to remove it also remove the MBSP and reseal it also.
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!
