    3rd gen 1.6l lx

i have an automatic 99 lx ... the 1.6l i wanna be faster not crazy fast but just quick but as you guys know they dont make much for my car , and its an automatic , im trying to build a "street" car in a sense something that performs well on the street , nothing for the track and nothing for show just kinda a daily driven street car, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

well the sucky thing is you have an automatic, but you can always go the route that most 1.6ers take, intake exhaust, lowering springs, also maybe a strutbar, or some sway bays, its up to you. as for speed, well its a 1.6 automatic, kiss that goodbye. what exactually are you looking for??

Not all automatics sacrifice speed, GOLDPRO.
I know some that are a hell of a lot faster then some manuals can dream to be.

There is always the route of the rebuilt tranny. Im not sure that they are offered for the 1.6L proteges though.

yeah, no matter how you slice it an automatic blows balls, i dont care what you do to it. but thats just my opinion.

                    nah man
1.6L engine at the higher rpms are pretty decent
as my friend said, they are "sleepers" at the higher rpms
i am staisfied with it as far as i am concerned
                    (i have an auto too)
the only thing i wish for is that it is faster from lets say
                    0-30mph
                    it just takes for ever
and i don't want to floor the gas everytime i do that
not good for the engine, especially for a city driver

                    to get kicks out
                    get an intake and exhast
sound nice and so as looks
doubt if it will do anything though

Were in the same boat my freind.
I also have a 1.6l atx. From what I understand the tranny wont handle too much power, for just a little more power you should be ok.

But if you just want to beat on the local street punks your gonna have to custom build a turbo kit, or have someone build one for you(wagner motorsports). I've been looking into superchargers and Ive found a few places that will assemble a kit for you. i would go supercharged but they eat gas and I enjoy not paying alot for it.

You could pick up some cams, $300 from corksport for 5hp, then mod your stock air box so you keep the low end power, an exhaust wont help you much but they do sound good.

didnt know corksport had the cams havent been there in a while, the other problem with the auto is the torque, we lose it since automatics rob torque ... other cars have torque converters that help with that problem does anyone know if they make any for the 1.6l automatic and also how would the turbo from wagner motorsports do on an auto and last but not least what places have you talked to about superchargers and how much are they looking for price wise and whats the power gain?

Thanks for all the help everyone

I read that they were testing or are curently testing there turbo on automatics. Here is the stuff on the mtx
                            "Stock - 87 HP
With turbo, intercooler and Vortec 12:1 FMU - 165HP from the wheels, 174lbs of torque. At 8 pounds of boost."

It should be about the same, on atx just figure a bit more drive train loss, well probubly get around 145hp, i hear we dyno at 77hp so i did some ghetto math to come to that number.

Ive gotten prices in the $3k range, on superchargers the power gain should be about the same. You can get a universal procharger kit, then theyll fab you up some flanges and whatever you need for the kit. I was tempted but thats around double the tubo kit cost, although still an easier install.

What are you talking about with the torque converters? I found some stuff to give us the whole maumatic thing for $2k.

torque converters are supposed to help out with the whole automatics sucking power thing , an automatic transmission steals more torque than a manual thats why we are slower off the line but do better in higher gears , but i dont know where to look , wehre did you find the maumatic thing ... do you have a link so i can read up on it ... thanks again
