    Tranny for my 2nd gen.

I need someone to let me have, for free, their automatic tranny that they took out to swap in a manual. Yes, I said free! Please, pretty please. I will pay shipping to Miami. I got no responses in the correct section for this type of post. I wonder why.

Listen, guys, the reason I say free is that I can get it here at the junkyard for $99 at the U-Pull junkyard plus tax & fees, etc. The problem is that I don't trust all those Proteges sitting there without crashes. You can't know, for sure, if it's engine or tranny damage. It will eventually come in crashed at one of the 3 U-pulls but I figure it's going to take a good while. It took about 8 months for one to come in like that for my Escort ZX2. Ofcourse there are way fewer ZX2's. Getting a free tranny that needs to be shipped will actually cost me more in shipping than one at the junkyard. I just don't want to sound like "I have a lot of nerve" asking for a free tranny. I was just hoping someone might just want to get it out of the house/garage.

Just because it's crashed doesn't mean that the transmission or engine is good.

Sheesh, you're the second guy to tell me that. Ofcourse it doesn't mean it's good. However, the chances of it being good increase considerably compared to a car with NO body damage whatsoever. You can also say that a car with no damage might have both engine and tranny good and is there because it was an abandoned vehicle. However, chances of that are slim. Now shut up and find me a free transmission.

Jho, not being a jerk here. I just thought it would be interesting info to add. I bought a used manual tranny at the junkyard for a 98 Escort ZX2 that I bought used. It cost $95 plus the tax and other what-not charges. It worked! The j/y car was crashed in the rear left side. My tranny guy put it in for $180 so it was not worth the work for me to do it. I was scared to death it would not work. Praise the Lord!

Thanks, as for the Proty. I'm paying the same guy $550 to repair the tranny on that. He's done it before on four of our family's cars.
