    brake upgrade

I got some new rims this summer, and it got me looking. At the brakes. I have an LX and those brakes are lookin kinda small. And the rear drum looks kinda stupid on the rear. I was thinkin, maybe i could upgrade to the ES version with 4 wheel disc. (i think they have em, not sure) I don't have ABS, and i was wondering what all i would need to find and replace to do this sort of thing.

Is it possible to get ABS? or would a complete overhaul be required for that?

Im also lookin to just upgrade the brakes in general. I like goin fast, as most of us probably do, and i'd also like to be able to stop. Are there any upgrades that i could do with the stock system that could get me more braking power that could potentially be cheaper/easier?

2nd gen es brakes are larger than the dx/lx variety. you can source either front or rears from any 95-98 ES protege. if you want abs, get the complete system, wiring, control module(seperate from main ecu),master cylinder, etc.

SEARCH for the how to for the rear disc conversion.

hardware from any 1st gen w/ rear discs can be had to upgrade the rears AND fronts as well. for the rears, might also need the ebrake cable, not too sure on that.

How easy/hard is this swap to do? About how long would it take. Can it be done without lifting the car completely off the ground?

It would take about a half a day to do once you have all the parts and tools at hand. Its not that hard to do. I'll get you the step by step instructions and you'll have to lift the car off the ground to install the hand brake cables i believe.

here is an exploded view of a disc brake system. Now this is not from a 2 gen but most of the parts still apply

Is it necessary to swap out the brake lines? I have an '98 LX and would they be much different if i was to get the stuff of a 97-98 ES? Would be easier without the line swap.

is the es 5 lug? if 4 vthen swap in the es rotors, they're 11" or at least an inch larger, then replacev pads with kevlar or carbon fiber... or swap out to another caliper. maybe the gt-r (323, not skyline) god i hope this can work cuzv i am in the same boat as you mang.
what DOT fluid is really great for racing? 2? 4?

wtf are you smoking? just use any protege from 1990 to 1998 with 4 disc brakes, they're all interchangeable and require the same amount of work.

also with a 9yr old car, you might as well use the better conditioned brake lines
                    OR EVEN BETTER
upgrade to some aftermarket brake lines.

to give you a definite answer.

yes, you have to swap out the brake lines too.
