    horsepower(dumb thread, don't pay attention)

i have a 93 protege dx sohc 5 speed and was wondering how much hp is posible with the engine, while keeping the sohc my goal is 600hp, i allready have a nr intake and 2.5inch cat back estimated 170whp as of now run high 14's @100mph i think (street raced a 14 sec honda and beat)
93 pro w/ rigged intake, resignator back 2 1/2 inch exhaust (no muffler) and a alpha otto single deck wing, blackout tails, clear corners, silvania ultra bright white halogens, blue plate lights, blue washer led's, 2 1/2" fogs

I highly doubt you are pushing 170 with only intake and exhaust. Especially with the SOHC. Your probably closer to say maybee 110.

I don't know what your SOHC can take, but the DOHC has been pushed close to 400 I think. There is no way your tranny could hold 600 horses either.

Also...are you sure that was a 14sec car you beat? A LX with the same mods can barley hit the 15's.

you are not thowing down 14's. maybe 17's but not 14's. 600hp. be prepared to pay if you want to keep your sohc. i'd say that if you have high power goals start researching a gtx/gtr swap. or a BP swap and turbo.

hold on now that i think bout it it was 14 sec 1/8 mile (thats y it was so easy) oh well what bout trans, i cant find anything other than oem (ive had it up to 160mph) and fith is whining so loud it sounds like a messed up turbo, ive been told that for like 3g's itl put out 550whp with a turbo

while the posible power out of our motor the dohc is really high with work it can make and hold lots of power but the real life power is not near as much unless you were willing to invest countless hours and tons and i mean TONs of money redoing the whole drivetrain and having custom parts made you may may be able to push 500 fhp but if you get in too it hard i wouldn't count on keeping your trany long.

At the very least swap in the DOHC version and go from there. If you have the cash, swap in a BPT. The GTX is more common, but if you can score a GTR that would be even better. Id expect to spend no less than 5 grand to swap to the BPT, and your not even going to be close to 600hp or a 9sec 1/4.

well it is possible. you will need a wickede large turbo and upgraded a few things. like weak points in the internals and the transmittion.

a more3 realistic goal would be 300whp. then go from there. take things in steps not leaps.

well right now i am in the middle of getting ready to move and have no clutch or valve seals left in the pro, i'd like to keep it but its not anywere near enough power, i want it to spin in fith just by smashing the gas, and to get that id have to have like 600hp, no ive heard bout a escort gt that's runnin round with a 327 conversion thats pushin close to 600hp and still uses the stock trans, it uses a lot of pulleys to hook up to the trans but wicked fast he spins in forth by smashing it and i gotta be faster but my trans is pretty much shot i have no fith anymore, ive looked for the kit that he got and cant find it, right now i can beat pretty much any honda or ford around relativly easy, ive only done 1 thing as far as appearance and thats an alfa otto wing (well besides designer hubcaps) its a real sleeper till they hear the exhaust from 1/2 mile away

I really honestly hope that your just ****in around. You want to be able to spin your tires in 5th by just smashing the gas?? Come on now you have a protege not a top fuel dragster. 600whp on a SOHC and 9 second 1/4's? First off, you wont be able to drive it on the street, second youll probably have to spend in excess of 15,000 to achieve that. and last....a 14 second 1/8th mile and your pushin 170whp right.
                        Eat ****.
