    the problem with automatic...

    ...is that i have one.

    is there any sort of 5spd conversion i can do?

    I'm heavily considering doing a KL swap within the next year (probably buying everything individually and doing it at home with some help, since A-spec is like, 2000 miles away) but ... with an auto?!
    i'd really rather not...

    so basically what kind of options do i have for this?
    i assume converting would probably be best to do at the same time as the swap, so i can avoid having to buy two transmissions... but yeah, maybe someone who has done this or knows a bit about it could give me some tips...

    while it can be done, the consensus seems to be that it is just easier (and maybe cheaper) to sell the car and get one with a standard transmission in it already.... sorry....


    if you're just working on the car for the fun of working on them I could see how doing a swap could be a good time...

      ok if you are wanting to swap... here are some tips

      Option a) go buy a 5 speed mx-5 GS(v6) parts car you will need the crossmember and axles anyways. even the ECU for the KL swap... i dont know of the shifter linkages are the same.

      Option B) go buy a 5 speed protege parts car.

      you are looking at replacing a lot. axles, tranny, mounts, linkages, bushings, lever.

        he can sell you a complete 5 speed conversion for your car, minus the tranny and motor.
