Hi i'm Jay and I am a longtime member of MX-3.com (93SOHC). I will be purchasing a 93 protege LX tomarrow morning and I am at odds with myself... Do I drive the car till spring then buy another MX-3RS and swap in the engine and trans or do I start modifying the protege? I know that posting in the MX-3 section I will prolly recieve byassd opinions, but we'll se what happens...What are my odds of finging a decent mx-3 with a bad motor or trans for cheap here in the midwest, really?

so your buying the pro lx basically for the drivetrain, then your gunna put it in a mx3? If thats the case, why not just keep the protege and mod it.Mx3s are heavy and probably wont be worth the effort of the swap.If your gunna get rid of the protege shell, id be very interested.Ive got a 95 escort 2 door now and im gunna be looking for a new shell soon.93 Escort Wagon V6-SOLD

Im going to pick it up in like 40 minutes. Im so psyched!!! I havent owned a running car since August when my turbo beetle got repoed. Seems to be a lot of mazda/escort ppl from WI, atleast I know i'll have ppl to help me out when I got work to do, lol.
I believe my 93 mx-3 RS weighed like 2700lbs and my 94 escort lx weighed 2900 or so. How much does the Protege weigh?

Well heres the news flash. Apparently the schmuck I got the car from doesnt know the difference between the letter 'L" and the letter 'D' cause when I got to the guys house and popped the hood it was most definately a SOHC 1.8L. I bought the thing anyway cause its in realllllly good shape. Interior is nearly mint, only 2 rust spots on the car, no dents...very nice. So looks like the concensus is im jumping the mx-3 ship and keeping the protege for now atleast...Hmmm, now whats this I hear about a V6 swap??? (tell me you can swap a KLZE in this thing!)
Anyway I guess I should change my s/n to SOHC or something for now, lol!
im sure i'll be on a lot and posting pics later today of my new ride. Thanx so much for the warm welcome

I really like the car a lot. I cant wait to get it legal tomarrow. I should have some cash for mods right away cause I got a guy coming out to buy my 89 Supra parts car today for 500cash. I hope he calls soon cause I have a cdplayer to install...
Definately down with gettin together sometime soon. I gotta throw a starter on this thing when it warms up too.
oh and the car is like kinda silverish gold color (gonna be black this summer though, hahaha)

well if your undecided on the motor yet, id get some suspension upgrades and maybe some exterior mods.id suggest some struts,springs,es bushing kit,and maybe some jdm body goodies if you can afford it.i wish i could have gotten a protege instead.Wanna trade for a black 2 door escort??93 Escort Wagon V6-SOLD
