    Lowering my 98 Protege...

    sup everbody,

my 98 needs new struts, so i just bought a set of 4 on E-bay, they are KYB GR-2. I want to take this opportunity to change the springs for lowering springs. i daily drive this car, highway and city. i am not worried about going too low, i own plenty of lowered cars and my previous car was a daily driver with barely 1" ground clearance.

so i dont want to spend big bucks on my 15 hundred dollar car. i found these springs and would like some comments / feedback or if anyone can recommend a set of cheaper ones or slightly better. i am definately looking for a 2" drop give or take. i will be using my stock 14 wheels with stock tire size. never plan to change the rims.

    130+26 = $156 at my door:

116+53 = $163 at my door from Canada:

thanks for your help if you have any links please post them, i want to order my springs today.

stay away from dropzone, ive never heard of any feedback from them from any protege users. just my 2cents.

i'd just save up a little more and get the h&r's or b&g's. my 3rd option would be the sprint brand.

    btw,
they're two sets of b+g's, the regular and the extremes. the regular spring lower by 1.5" and the extremes by 2.5".

    h&r's only lower by 1.3".

you know, since you have new struts and springs. you might as well buy some new strut mounts. now would be the best time to replace those.

95pro, how can i tell if i need to replace them? and is that something i could buy at my local auto parts store if i "need" it when i do the job?

one more thing, is it for the front and for the rear or just the front?

              thanks.

just for less hassle later on down the line, replace them now. do the job right and once.

                replace all four.

you can buy them at your local auto parts store, if you lucky you can find a great deal on ebay, but dont count on it.

That Dub is one of the sexiest things ever.

Wish you'd give the Protege the same attention, that would be incredible.

yeah i know what you mean. but i really like the protege simple and clean. i only bought it to drive to university (about 50 miles round trip 2 times a week). and i do not want to sacrifice my 40mpg that i am consistantly getting, its amazingly economical, plus i have other cars that demand more attention

                        thanks.

Making it look nice won't affect your fuel mileage

not everybody's here for flash and bang. plus, the thread is about lowering it - isn't that the single mod that makes it look nicer?

firelizard, i agree. i just cant see myself spending money on it that it does not "need", sorry.

esmacmil, flash and bang? yeah lowering it will make it look nicer, i am only doing it because my original struts are shot, trust me if they didnt rattle i wouldnt need to change them. i figured because i am already doing the job (take springs out put springs in) why not invest a little to make it look nice and ride a little tighter? thats all.

i know im going off my own topic here, but for example somebody broke my driver side view mirror while i was parked, should i replace it or get a "nicer" one?
i opt to duck tape it back on because i dont want to spend money on it.

                              back to suspension, please.
